I dont think anyone could doubt that a Halo based story would make an incredible, epic movie. The action is there and the story is certainly there as well. Obviously Bungie has no doubt noticed a terrible streak with video game movies being made into really crummy movies and an all star cast never seems to matter. It's just my opinion, but if there was a halo movie preview on TV today I would have mixed feelings of dissapointment and excitement. The only way i could see this movie being made is if it was understood that the movie wouldn't be a cheap marketing ploy to sell more video games. The movie would have to be done as a serious, black op, war story. CG is a cop out in movies these days and even if the movie was made using real actors i'm sure it would be pretty much undisputed that a ton of digital effects would be needed to pull it off in a believeable way. It really comes down to this. The story of Master Chief, cortana, Dr.Hasley, Keyes, Sgt. Johnson, and the survival of the human race is not going to make a good "single" movie. It's a massive story about massive and surreal actions. Fact of the matter is... The story's not even finished being told yet, and there's a possiblility that it won't be concluded even after we all sit down and play thru halo2, and you simpley can't end a great story with a shameful "to be continued." without knowing where it goes from there.
This topic does raise an intresting and slightly off-topic debate though. Will Bungie conclude the Halo story and end the popular video game franchise before the game becomes stale like an all to familiar tony hawk pro skater game? Will we see the story get more and more insane just to add new bad guys and new gameplay elements into the game with potential newer releases of the Halo franchise? Or will Bungie do the right thing, and end the game and the story properly when it's time comes?
I say, when the story is concluded, either in book or video game form. I would be happy to see the story retold in movie form of course, only if it was done with as much care and thought as the video games were made.
