Subject: BATTLEFIELD/WAR MODE for Halo: Reach

Hope to someday work at this place! :)

Imagine, a mode for Halo: Reach, where teams of 20+ duke it out on a HUGE battlefield, where players can fly teammates into battle aboard pelicans, spirits, phantoms, elephants, and scarabs, where players can ODST drop behind enemy lines and covenant forces can use the glassing beam to melt enemy spartans alive!
I, for one, hope Bungie implements something like this in Halo: Reach!

Oh, don't be so pessimistic, with today's technology it's possible, but you're probably right, I doubt this will come to pass.... It would be freakin' awesome though..

teams of 20+? sounds like lagfest

having more then 4 vs. 4 takes away the feeling of individuality and and the ability to change the fate of the battle

besides you never going to interact with all those players. having big maps means too many vehicles and thats not what halo is about. halo is about shooting the living daylights out of each other and then getting a killing spree with a warthog before you get lasered

First of all, agreed.

Second, LONGSWORDS!!!

Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

Let me fix this to be reasonable but awesome.

16 player max.
Elites, Brutes, Drones, Jackals, Grunts and Hunters - all dropping in via Covenant drop pods or Spirit dropships.
All Spartans (players) use their multiplayer armour permutatuons/colours.
To spawn, you drop in via ODST pod.
In later levels, you can call in Longsword strikes and are provided with a missile-armed Pelican.

There's probably no god. Now stop
worrying and get on with your life.

Maybe on the next gen of consoles, or a powerful PC. I would love a 64 player Battlefield styled Halo game.

i'd love to see something like Titan from Battlefield 2142, when there are two gigantic ships that belong to each team and you'd have to take out multiple targets on the opposing teams ship. the ships could be like scarabs or frigates. halo really hasn't had anything that could take advantage of hornets or banshees. this could also be a chance for dropships like the phantom to be used

It would be awesome. It's like Battlefield 1943. There is only 12 players per team, yet the battles seem so massive.

It would be more accurate to say teams of 10-15 each... 20 each? I don't know about that.

I don't think that more = better, though, there would be no cohesion. I say 32 players MAX. Split into squads which speak freely to the members in the squad (3-5 people), and the squad leader (whoever started the party) can communicate with all other squad leaders by pressing a button on his Dpad.

Or how about commandable AI units like marines/ODSTs for UNSC and Grunt/Jackal/Hunters for the Covenant. So, for example, a player can drop off a marine squad, 3 or four teammates and some deployable gun turrets at the top of a ridge to snipe covenant forces below. And in response a covenant player can either drop some covenant squads via phantom/spirit, or pull in a scarab. Or just glass them... (would have to be an expensive option in multiplayer)
With next-gen technology I believe this is possible. (if the could do it for battlefield they can do it for Halo) But it's up to Bungie if they want to make this an improved Halo 3 experience or a whole new feel. Which is what I think (and hope) they're going for.

This would only work if Bungie licensed the super amazing Frostbite Engine from DICE.

assuming they do put those vehicles in multiplayer, that (if they did it well and had good maps)would probably win some award...

and a gun that would glass people would be (sic)

they're definately experimenting with their awesome team at Bungie, just look at ODST.

i'd say they might do it...

I don't like the idea of commandable NPCs, but it would be nice if we could call in NPC support.

Elites call in a Hunter pair which is lowered down from a gravity lift. Spartans call in a pair of Cyclops-wearing marines equipped with the flamethrowers the Hellbringers have in Halo Wars. The Cyclops would be dropped in from orbit and could impact the surface without taking damage, creating a small crater (maybe they have some anti-descend thrusters to slow them at the last moment). You would call them in from a special map location where you get an overview of the map, and point out the location you want them at. Best place would be in the midst of a battle.

You could also call in air strikes. Go to a special part of the map, enter a secure building, and then loosely command a wing of Longswords (Spartans) or Seraphs (Elites) to fly over the map and drop a barrage of bombs. Would handle a lot like the air raids in BF 1943, only maybe a player could only call in an air raid once so no one will camp the spot and hog all of the raids whenever they become available.

Air raids would be sloppy, but if you wanted pinpoint offensives against targets, you could call in an orbital strike, similar to the ones in Halo Wars. Spartans call in a MAC round onto a point in the map (again, overview of the map in a special location like with the NPC call-ins) and Elites would call in a plasma lance.

Classes would be, from left to right in the banner, Support, Recon, Soldier, Technician, Sniper. Elites and Spartans could be on the same team, but some gamemodes would be Spartans vs. Elites. Spartans start with UNSC weapons, Elites start with Covenant weapons. You could also create a custom class which would look like the Master Chief in Halo 1 to differentiate it from the default classes.

actually i think this would be just as awesome for Halo reach as it would for like star wars battlefront, or a game like it....

now yer thinkin" !!!!

  • 07.20.2009 1:59 PM PDT

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Sure. But don't make the maps Battlefield large. Its too easy in BF to run around for 10 minutes than get killed by some plane to start over.

Thats where the dropships and ODST would come in!

it would also sorta fit the Halo: Reach storyline/theme. Especially if they integrate glassing.
