No... No... No. The Valhalla BTB example is exactly why Reach will not be class based. We can assume classes already in H3, Bungie has limited the classes well, eg. Valhalla: 2 Sniper, 1 Heavy etc. If classes were put in place games would be ruined by everyone having a sniper for example.

I think an option to start with a variety of default weapons (say shotty, sniper, BR or chaingun) would be a nice touch on some gametypes. But class based gameplay is often a disaster. One class is often much stronger than all the rest. If that doesn't happen there is always one class thats more fun than the rest such as the heavy weapons specialist that all the noobs rush toresulting in unbalanced gameplay.
I'm sorry but a class based shooter just wouldn't be...halo. If you want a class based shooter try CoD

I agree, the classes idea will work well if you have a full party working together, but often in H3 Matchmaking I go in alone and have an non cooperating team. If Bungie do implement a class feature, I really hope it is well thought out for cases like mine.

I would like to see a class based halo game, its always nice to see variety in a new game.

Wall of text, make room Sil Vous Plais!

Well, The class system in Americas Army (PC) worked really well. Instead of everyone picking their own class, there are 8 preset positions. For example, 1 sniper, 1gernadier, 1 heavy,1 cqb specialist, and 4 infantry. Players with a higher Global Ranking, followed by Playlist Ranking decides dibs. For example,a Commander Grade 2 Global, General Playlist would have higher priority than Commander Grade 2 Global, Major Playlist. The advantage is that higher ranking players are reward for their efforts in Matchmaking and that stupid noobs won't get all the good weapons. For total newbies, like Sargents, They'll always be getting the lower classes, but it gives them a reason to rank up and be better at Halo. Third, turn off friendly fire. In fact, friendly fire won't even disturb you. I'm tired of noobs constantly following me around, wanting the sniper or laser and messing up shots by knocking me out of zoom. Of coarse, you can still pick up weapons to add even more3 strategies and more equipment and grenades would make things better too. Their are also ways to make things more fair. Example, The sniper would have low shields so a single sniper shoe will kill him. The heavy man is slower, but makes up for it with a heavy assault rifle and loads of ammo (96 round clip for the AR and 5 extra clips). Also, his AR is inaccurate as the Halo CE AR to make up for it. The grenadier can have an stranded BR but with a grenade launcher attachment that replaces left trigger and launches the selected nade. CQB specialist can have a shot gun but suffer from bad range and low shields. There's ways to make a class system fair and fun. Bungie just has to find them. Then own our a$$es at it in pink tutus.

No. No, no, no.

The point of Halo is that everybody starts with the same weapon. That is the simple model that the Halo I have come to love over the years has been based. If you want a class-based shooter you can play Team Fortress 2. It's a fine game.

They could separate us down into squads of 4 and the squad leaders (whoeveer started the party) can talk freely with all other squad leaders with the press of the Dpad.

Halos classic gametypes would be amazing re-worked for a Battlefield: REACH style game.

24-30 player Team Slayer... Free for all... Oddball... Infection... Capture the Flag... Territories (BF 1943's "Conquest")... Race. Plus, it could still retain the Halo twist (melee with B, throw nades with LT, don't need to equip a melee weapon or anything) while being class-based.

We can have Halo games that are very different from the classic -- look at Halo Wars! I hope that Halo REACH will be a Battlefield style game.

Any and all people who advocate class-based systems are a blight to all gamers and should be drug out into the streets and shot. And that is not limited to Halo: Reach. That goes for every game in existence. The only way games are going to evolve is they make them indepth enough to not require classes, and threads like these do nothing to help the situation.

Take the upcoming Section 8 game. It lets you customize your loadout everytime you die before you respawn if you so desire. That's a helluva lot more flexible than having classes.

Anyway, rant over, because at this point I doubt Bungie will revert to an gimicky game mechanic like classes. (Of which, for FPS, only Team Fortress/2 managed to pull of well).
