That's called telekinesis.

The prophets are the leaders of the religious arm of the covenant as such they probably have little to no offensive actions. It is probably however that they insure their safety through defensive measures (ie. shield, entourage). Catch one alone and I think it'll be toast.

Now you know.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

For me, there are too many unknowns to decide.

If they are telekinetic, then I think they'd be very tough, with or without shields... Perhaps they could use it to stop bullets and plasma in mid-air, then throw them back at you.

But, since their telekinesis is unproven (it could be just a manipulative feature of the gravbelt's/chair's gravity field (perhaps they have another mechanism that they use for that)), they might be very weak, as well (without shields, since their shields would probably be the toughest personal shields... perhaps as tough as a Jackal's handheld shield, but invisible).... They do look pretty frail.

dude, maybe w/ their telekenesis they can like teleport themselves, like if u try to shoot them they will pop up behind u so u have 2 come up behind them or something and melee them

i dunno i just seem to remember some part of one of the books talkig about a prophet haveing some tech that floats them but as religeous members of the cov it would be fitting for them to have telekenisis(spelling?)

You can't teleport with telekinesis...

And if their telekinesis was powerful, they probably wouldn't need grav belts... they'd be able to make themselves float.... so I think it was just a manipulative feature of the gravbelt's field.

they still are important enough to warrent powerfull defencive technology other than being able to float cause honestly they'd be like "look at me i can float out of ur reach" then id all like pull out a grenade and they'd be like "oh crap im an idiot"

They shouldn't be hard because at the end of the Flood book, the ODSTs were able to capture one when they took the Truth and Reconciliation. I know the ODSTs are badasses but if a marine could do it i bet the Master chief wouldnt have a problem. Or any of the spartans for that matter. Also its not the Prophets who do the fighting its the elites. They just rule out of the other races religios fear of them. SO i bet there about as tough as an engineer.

In the book, it made out the prophets as arogant but brilliant leaders who use religion to assert and maintain control over the alien races known as the Covenant. This is ironically similar to human religious leaders, past and present. The prophet was hardly moved when he heard that a massive Covenant armada, preparing for the invasion of earth, had been completely decimated. Obvously this suggests that there is an even larger Covenant force that will be sent to earth. However, if the prophets do think that they are all powerful and whatnot, then they probably haven't considered what to do if marines or spartans did somehow surround and or capture them. That was the goal for the spartans before the fall of reach. Much like Hitler was ill prepared at the end of WWII, the prophets will probably either a.) commit suicide like Hitler b.) fearfully give up (most likely) c.) do some matrix crap on mc (wouldn't jive...). So yes, the Spartans could probably easily take out or capture the ignorant and stuck up prophets.

besides, HALO gameplay wouldn't lend well, in my opinion, to a boss fight. That action is reserved for action games, at least in the past, such as Ninja Gaiden, which was friggin awesome.

  • 04.27.2004 3:24 PM PDT

bah

If prophets can, in fact, shoot lightning out their butts, then I believe they will be a worthy opponent.
