In game, when I look at the ground in a game like Halo I can a HUGE difference in the textures that are 10 feet away, and a hundred feet away. That's any game, why would the developers want their game engine to render high resolution props, and textures from one hundred feet? Of course the textures away are going to be low resolution compared to if you were. Plus in real life, do you see stuff detailed up close, or far away? It's only realistic, and makes more of a technological sense. Also who cares if I'm up close to the textures, Halo 3 is the only game that really makes a great significant resolution change from 20 feet to 10 feet. It's amazing.
Also to comment on your "When Crysis 2 comes to Xbox 360" even the computer can barely handle the Cryengine since it's horribly optimized as an engine. It's great at making visuals, but crappy in making optimized games.
