Subject: Boss fights in REACH! Lets hope...

My Bungie.net group

My elite name is R vo 'Caboree. and I am a gold rank! I AM A ZEALOT!

So im really hoping for some actual challenging boss fights in REACH.

I want one like the heretic leader in halo 2 where he deployed clones and stuff.

The monitor was pathetic...

You are lame...

A boss fight would be cool if done right. I still like having to perform an epic escape at the end of the game though.

Yes. To me it makes players do something that they normally wouldn't do, which makes things interesting and new. But as for the boss fights, I could do without them. Nothing makes a game more frustratingly stupid than having a normal enemy (like Tartarus from Halo 2) being able to soak up ridiculous amounts of bullets simply because they have a Mohawk or some other equally useless difference.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

Agreed overpowered characters, with no apparent reason for their strength to resist bullets is retarded. Give them shields, clones, quickness, etc. But don't let them take 10,000 bullets to the chest...that is just lame.

Can't be too careful with your company. I can feel the devil walking next to me.

Let's have a boss fight like the sea monster in Gears 2... Oh wait that one sucked...
Umm, a fight like the Heretic leader in Halo 2 or sort of a mini-boss that appears every once in a while, like a Scarab.

heretic leader was easy, even on Legendary. The monitor can actually be a pain.

common sense is not commonly used

I'm sorry, but no boss fights were one of the worst gameplay elements to come to halo. The only kind of boss fight I want from a halo game is a large hard battle. taking down hings like the scarab or a couple packs of brutes. The boss fights they had in halo 2 such as tartarus and the heretic leader were horrible.

I don't even see killing 343 guilty spark as a boss fight. It was more of a story element that let us do something that we've been wanting to do since Halo CE.

If there is another driving portion for the last part of the game, I will kill someone.

If there are any boss fights, please make them realistic? God damn boss fights in Gears of War 2 for example just sicken me...

  • 07.20.2009 12:46 PM PDT

ya that would be sweet to have a couple bosses in the game. i like a challenge like in h2 to with tartorus (spelling) and i completely forgot about the heretic. the monitor was so easy when i first killed it i was so confused i thought there would be a bunch of sentinels coming in but no it was too easy. i am sure the monitor on legendary was easier than tartorus (again spelling) on easy.

Exactly. It makes no sense in an FPS, the rules need consistency and reliability. I like to know that shooting a Brute in the face will kill them, or that an Elite only has a certain amount of shield.

Tartarus, Regret and the Heretic Leader were absolutely horrid bosses and they thoroughly ruined my experience of Halo 2 Campaign. All of a sudden the rules just changed, flow is broken.

Gah!

Boss fights are horrible in Halo games. Replace them with large battles where you try and fight toward the target who is constantly shifting away from you, and he will have as much health as he should have (i.e. the Chief would have killed Regret in the first punch, Tartarus would die from one headshot when his shields are down, etc.)

Just like on the Ark!
Where you have a tank battle down the hillside, where you then fight a Scarab!

That was way more awesome than uhhh..... a boss fight.....

The Scarabs are awesome "bosses". The great thing about them is they are unique meaning no confusion is had when you encounter them. You need to board them or knock out a leg to ultimately strike the core, established and understandable rules.

I just want more Final Run style big battles. H3 didn't really have anything like that. Lots of nice small-medium battles but nothing supremely massive. The 2 Scarab battle on The Covenant would have been awesome if they were backed up by anything resembling a Covenant army, all we got were a few banshees, ghosts and prowlers.

There need to be gigantic open battles, where your target is one commander out of hundreds of enemies (that don't infinitely respawn) - the targets need to be realistic, and they can be objectives as well. One of my ideas was to have a mission where you're in space, and your objective is to board and destroy a covenant ship from the inside. If that isn't plausible, the "bosses" need to be the highest end enemies that have special weapons abilities like cloaking or invincibility, while being faster and harder to hit than other enemies, and resistant to certain attack types, and not just arbitrarily invincible with hordes of respawning henchmen.

Other end mission or "boss" scenarios should involve you high tailing your ass out of a certain area because a large number of enemies are converging on your position, or something big is chasing you, or something is blowing up or whatever. Any of these scenarios shouldn't be confined to a single linear path or one small area, but I know Bungie will give us some gigantic environments to play around in.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

I think that the Halo 2 Boss Battles were all right. Tartarus was very durable and hard to defeat, the Brute he is, and the Heretic Leader was very....Evasive.... Utilizing his jetpacks somewhat well. I think that they were pretty good.

However, the types of boss battles I want more of are larger battles, where you fight against something much stronger, and much larger than you in a very open environment. Maybe one where you have to be in a Warthog would be fun.

I Agree one aspect i was thinking for a boss fight is a combination of escape and boss.
at the end of the level you would be driving away from some dangerous thing when the floor beneath you breaks away just when ou think you lost you kand on solid ground and a boss bursts through the right in front of you. This would be a cool idea for halo:reach

I swear to god if they are anything like that one where you had to kill Tartarus (sp?) I would hate the game. Halo's gameplay is not really suited for boss battles.

Agreed, I thought they were pointless and poorly affected pacing. So I guess they fit right into the rest on Halo2's campaign.

Boss Battles would be bringing the good old times to the future! The Heretic should be upgraded and have a Spartan Laser.

there needs to be a giant enemy crab that you have to flip over for massive damage....sorry E3 06 flashback.
