Hey all.

A lot of people have been hoping there will be Scarabs in Halo 3 ODST. Now, there are several arguments against the idea, and a few for too. And by "in ODST," I mainly mean in Campaign. It's unlikely they will be in FireFight.

Against Scarabs

- There was only one Scarab tank ever reported in New Mombassa, and it was destroyed by the chief.
- In order to fit with the whole "just after the slipspace rupture" plot, the Scarabs would have to be piloted by Elites, and the more efficient Scarabs driven by the Hunter worms were not deployed yet. No Elites in Halo ODST means no pilots.
- It would be very tough do destroy, unless we had access to Scorpions or Pelican attack support. ODSTs aren't exactly the type of soldiers to climb up tall buildings and drop onto the Scarab from above either, so that method of attack is pretty much knocked out unless there are specific buildings during a sub-mission that allow easy boarding.
- From first looks, the city appears to be far too narrow and inconsistent in layout to allow for a Scarab to be easily attacked. The various building heights and street sizes mean that the chances of a non-linear encounter are pretty much wiped out.

For Scarabs

- The day-time missions following squadmates may lead to large areas capable of holding a Scarab tank.
- The Scorpion is in ODST, so the Scarabs could be taken down.
- ODSTs have access to Spartan Lasers and Rockets, meaning they could potentially knock the Scarab down without a Scorpion.
- Perhaps a "prototype" Hunter-worm-piloted version may be dropped off before Regret left the city. After all, we only see the carrier once the Chief destroyed the first Scarab and boarded the Autumn, so a hidden drop could occur.

Thoughts?

Hmm im undecided on this topic. One reason why im against it is beacuse of the challenge it would become to take down one scarab. But i'm also for it because with this challenge it makes firefight mode harder and more fun to play because each time you want to beat the scarab.
True, but I'm not necessarily talking Firefight here. If anything, Scarabs will only appear in campaign.

I love Halo, I have played it since the beginning, even though I may not have had Xbox Live back then. Marathon is also a pretty good game.

Thank You Bungie! For the best games and Recon Armor. Also thanks for the early access to the Halo: Reach Beta!

This account was hacked and I now have a new account.

I'd rather there be no scarabs.

I would love a Scarab, if only to teabag it's burned remains as an ODST instead of the Chief, but it's unlikely to occur given the differences in the game. I do think we'll see more Phantoms and Wraiths, though.

The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

- There was only one Scarab tank ever reported in New Mombassa, and it was destroyed by the chief. But what about the orange Scarab in the Graphic Novel?

Halo 2' map Turf featured a different Scarab taken down by Marines if i remember correctly.

ODSTs fight CQB generally, I don't think the Firefight levels are planned out to even accommodate the sheer bulk of a Scarab. If they made one level where it showed up, that would be cool, but its doubtful.

Duracell.
I don't keep going and going and going and...
but i Start, and just don't Stop.

So what if the saxophone is black?
it has better tone the the gold one.
damn straight i play Jazz.

i'm sorry i have to post this here. the ODST's are in fact capable of taking down a scarab tank. see my PIC, even if it was with pilot support.

please note the scarab is taking the killing blow from that ODST's spartan laser, as the 'engine room' light is turning red

I hope there's a flashback somewhere with a scarab.

Honestly, if they can make it fun to fight, chuck it in. If not, leave it out.

But that's just my opinion...

A well-built sniper rifle is a beautiful thing. Mine has two separate levels of zoom: 'Up-close-and-personal' and 'Hello-you're-dead'.

Bungie put Scarab battles!!
I love the Scarab fights in H3, so why don't in H3:ODST?
