Ok its my turn, since were on the subject. Well given my personal experience with every combat weapon that can be fired or deployed by a human being and not a machine IE a nuke, or rocket from a F22, or stealth bomber or...oh hell you get my point. The point and objective is still the same. Make the fastest shooting, most accurate, and most powerful, and most of all easiest to use, while also being the lightest, hand held weapon ever is the main goal, of every army, no matter if your from the 1800's or the 3000's. The argument that we have evolved in terms of firepower is very true, but the overall idea is the same. If you notice the halo like weapons still have a trigger, they still have barrel, and they still have magazines which still hold brass rounds. So yes we do have Halo like weapons, Just not as advanced. But i bet you $1000000 that in 100 years, the hand held weapons will still be based on the principals we use today.
You can try to say whatever you want, but evolution is inevitable of course but the tried and true method will always be the same..why fix what isnt broken? But just try to improve on it to make it better.... I rest my case.
