Mind, body and soul, possibly my sole properties

In the Halo: Reach trailer, it seems that the Covenant arrive in system and immediately begin to glass the planet, however, in The Fall of Reach the Covenant employ a diversion to get troops ground side, just wondering, WTF is up?

.

We do not know that they are glassing the planet in the trailer, it could be something else.

Well in any case it was a bombardment, which didn't take place until after the Covenant fought a bunch on the ground, maybe its Bungie's way of making more Spartans alive, if I remember correctly the trip to Reach took out several.

if the game follows the story of the book, then the covenants are looking for an artifact located on the planet (inside of the CASTLE, ONI's HQ).
so they don't glass the planet for fear of destroying the crystal.

Did you even read? That's the exact point I'm making, the fact that the trailer includes the Covenant arriving and starting there bombardment doesn't make sense when compared to the story told in the book.

the covenant don't bombard the planet, you know. for all we know, it could be the installations on the ground that are exploding, because of a terrestrial assault. not orbital bombs.

unless YOU saw a covie ship dropping a bomb on the planet?

Ground installations exploding because of a terrestrial assault that started seconds after the Covenant arrive? While in the book they have time to fire on the dropships with the orbital MAC cannons, that makes perfect sense... really it does.

Here's a thought, go back to school and learn how to spell. Here's another thought, why would they make an inaccurate trailer? Dumbass

it's a TEASER.

to tease means to show you as less as one can to have you excited. that's what they did.
it's not a game cutscene, dumbass.

I didn't say it was a cutscene smart guy, simply that if they show us something, it should be canonically accurate.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

The trailer seems to be the first hour of combat compressed into about a minute of screen time. The "bombs" are actually plasma bombardments. You can see the same type of explosions in Halo 2 on Earth.

I hear the teaser as dialogue from different parts of the game if it is in the game just mashed to hear one after another. Who says that dialogue is all actually together like that if it is in the game?

EDIT: Cheehwawa pretty much said what I said but worded different^

I think it could have been showing the planet over the first 12-24 hours of combat (it rotates), and the radio chatter is the first one or two hours.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

As everyone else has said, the teaser is meant to give you a very brief glimpse into the events that occur. It would be stupid to assume that the Covenant suddenly showed up and about 45 seconds later there were already Spartans on the ground.

Teasers do those sort of things.

They glass only parts of the planet in the book...

  • 07.20.2009 7:46 PM PDT

Its just a teaser so..... I think it still will be simialer(spelling im tired)

  • 07.20.2009 7:56 PM PDT

Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a f**kin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

I dont think the explosions are plasma bombardments, I thinks they are internal explosions planted by the covenant in the planets reactors that knock out the power which you see in the trailer, which in turn knock out the MAC guns. You can see in the trailer all the lights going out on the planet after the reactors were dissabled by ground forces. Only with the reactors down (which powered the MAC platforms in orbit) could the covenant move in and start bombarding with plasma with there ships otherwise the MAC guns would have taken them out. Its all in tthe books chaps.

I see... but none of that happened in the book either?

its most likely not happening in real time

It's a teaser trailer- it doesn't have to be technically correct, just enticing- the Halo 3 E3 trailer showed Master Chief in a completely different area than where he was in the game when he first found the portal to the Ark- but it made for a good trailer.

Yes, but they weren't depicting a part of the story that the fans knew about, they weren't going against any previously established assumptions.

  • 07.20.2009 10:36 PM PDT

Ok, here's a better explanation; maybe they wanted it to look good. I mean, if you have a minute and a half of video time, it would be super lame to just hear guys talking on the radio without anything that you can see.

They could have easily filled the space with just as entertaining and accurate information. Watching the Chief jump out of a space station to board a covenant ship as an announcement seemed to work pretty damn well.

it's also possible that bungie sped up the video so that they could show us much us more of the attack in a short amount of time. im not sure where but i read that theory someone here here on this forum.
