Watch out... I can be anywhere...

Se the character from the second to the right with the knife.
I think that's Fred.
What if we get to use that knife.
Give some meaning to the Chestplate of the C.Q.B. Armor

Kick start a craze

Agreed I would love to do some up close and dirty work with a combat knife.

  • 07.20.2009 9:04 PM PDT

Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a f**kin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

I doubt any knife would go through future-armour and shields so I think its pointless

  • 07.20.2009 9:06 PM PDT

yes it not like CoD where they have no armour. the knife would only work against jackels and grunts.

  • 07.20.2009 9:07 PM PDT

Kick start a craze

It would still work against Jackals and grunts.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

If they had some really sturdy metal, then with the spartans stregth, I think it may be more effective than wacking people.

Against a shielded enemy, that knife blade would just bend in half or even possibly break in half. They wouldn't add a feature that only effected a few enemies for just campaign.

The Arbiter didn't have any shields when Forge killed him. Plus you shouldn't reference a game that has many discrepencies (made by Ensemble Studios) to the Halo storyline.

And how do you "uncough?"

Why would you assume its Fred?

Cause he has a knife and Bungie loves giving its fans little treats like that.

But what would it be Fred? He's not the only Spartan who used a knife before.

Right but he was known to have a certain affinity for the combat knife, his specialty per se.

You must be having a great time playing dumb, you're good at it.

No but he was a character in The Fall of Reach and he seemed to really like his Knife. That's reason enough for me.

And just because this is the future doesn't mean melee weapons are obsolete. ALL Spartans were trained to be efficient and deadly with both melee and ranged weapons. There's a lot of space in between ours and their armor that a sharp knife could be plunged into if the opportunity arises.

Agreed, I wouldn't mind seeing a little hand to hand combat worked in, maybe that's what natal could be used for.

Go re-read Halo: First Strike. All he was doing was fiddling around with his knife on the Pillar of Autumn. It says that normally when a Spartan wielded a knife they were accompanied by multiple corpses. It never says Fred's "speciality" was a knife.

It was a between the lines implication that most readers catch, gift of a good education.

It's used in the book against enemies, so why can't it be used in the game.

I don't ever remember it being used in the novels, but its safe to assume they were unshielded enemies like Grunts, Jackals, or Insurrectionists. So why have it in the game if it wouldnt do -blam!- in MP?
