And if you look at the past, middle ages, when knights wore ARMOUR and were still KILLED BY SWORDS.

I suppose you don't know anything about chain mail then.

I doubt any knife would go through future-armour and shields so I think its pointless
actually they used it in the book alot, anyways think about it,future armor, future knife aswell.

Halo 3: Lone Wolves - 44
Team Slayer - 38
Team Doubles - 46
Team Snipers - 25
MLG - 20
Team SWAT - 28
Halo: Reach: Brigadier Grade 2 - 73% Armory Completion

almost every topic about them has come to the conclusion that we aren't playing as the spartans from the damn books. listen to the dialouge in the trailer the 2 spartans that say they are going to fight or whatever are unknown we will probably play as them or people in their squad

Yeah... physics doesn't work like that I'm afraid, you can't bend light of that intensity into a blade.

Plasma is a different issue, but laser? No way.

Chain Mail protects against stabbing, not slicing, whereas the MJOLNIR is a titanium exoskeleton with energy shields. You tell me if a knife sounds appropriate to use.

Chain mail works by stopping the edge of the blade, weather stabbing or slicing. The comparisian was more about weapons and armour from a similer ere

sorry i got to jump in on this for a sec....

every one is complaining about how ineffective a knife is against this "future amour". but then why does no one complain when a simple punch to head hurts like hell in MM or even in campaign???

A punch relies on force to do damage, a knife relies on the ability to penatrate to body and cause ham from there

Put on a Kevlar body suit and let me hit you with a car. Then you'll see why there is a difference.

Wrong. A punch relies of force to do damage, a knife relies on force to do damage as well, but because the surface area of contact is smaller and wedged, more force is being applied to a certain section of skin than if it were the flat of a hand.

Its like stepping on a nail vs. laying down on a bed of nails.\

Halo isn't realistic enough to care about the difference of someone punching someone and someone hitting someone with a knife besides the difference of 70 damage vs 72 damage. If we really wanted to make this game realistic, we could factor in bleeding to death, but then we'd have to do concussions for head blows, broken limbs, and all that nastyness, when really its simple to gloss over it.

I was siplifying true but being struck with a blade rarely causes death, unless to the head or neck. A punch uses transferance of keneitic energy to do most of its damage but a knife causes more damage because of the nature of blades. Cuts and stabs are more dangerous than bruses

Not when we are talking about a car hitting someone wearing kevlar vs a car with a knife tied onto the front hitting someone wearing kevlar.

lol. i kinda want to try that now....hmmm *daydreams* ahhh flying through the air with Kevlar on...sounds fun.

The person would be brused and likely have broken bones fron the impact, but with that kind of force it makes hard to say in terms of comparisan to blunt

I just wonder what the purpose of having a knife would be if the Brute shot (bladed), Mauler (bladed), and Spiker (bladed) don't kill in one hit. So neither would the knife. And in that case, its as strong as a regular melee (two hit kill like in H1, 2 and 3) and in that case completely redundant and uneeded. Unless you want to remove the ability to melee with your weapons.

the knife would fulfill the role left by the sword. the Brute shot, Mauler, and Spiker did no extra DMG because they didn't need to fill in a C.Q.C. role the sword did that just fine. but in order to keep people from -blam!-ing about there being a sword in halo: reach the knife would be introduced to fulfill the same exact role. so basically its just the sword but with a different appearance.

Why couldnt it be stronger than the bladed weapons? (whice are primarly ranged)
It being a dedicated melee weapon

Which is why the melee (the car) breaks the shields, hitting them (ramming them) again would kill them. Using a knife rather than a punch (attaching a knife rather than just simply ramming them) isn't going to do much more meaningful damage to them, and on the 2nd hit they are dead anyways.

I understand what you mean and i agree, but dealing with less forces the knife would be rendered near useless. But thats assuming that its subject to the same principals as you mentioned

i have a couple things to say: first when spartans were trained it was before they even knew about the covenant, second if a simple punch can take out a enemys shields, why couldnt a knife and third if bungie would not make a weapon other than to just "have fun with" explain the halo 3 pistol.
