The person would be brused and likely have broken bones fron the impact, but with that kind of force it makes hard to say in terms of comparisan to blunt

Which is why the melee (the car) breaks the shields, hitting them (ramming them) again would kill them. Using a knife rather than a punch (attaching a knife rather than just simply ramming them) isn't going to do much more meaningful damage to them, and on the 2nd hit they are dead anyways.

you could make the second slash that would finish them off faster than with a melee.

I was siplifying true but being struck with a blade rarely causes death, unless to the head or neck. A punch uses transferance of keneitic energy to do most of its damage but a knife causes more damage because of the nature of blades. Cuts and stabs are more dangerous than bruses

I believe that it only takes 4 inches of blade to reach internal organs. Very possibly as little as 2 is required, but I think 4 inches is illegal(in my state) because of the reaching organs thing. A stab to a kidney, heart, or lung will almost guarante that you die without immediate medical attention. Being stuck with a blade rarely causes death because you usually don't damage something critical.

Somebody mentioned the possibility that you would use the knife instead of regular melee attacks with ranged weapons. This has been done in a Very popular game that I can think of and it works just fine. That is NOT a comparison to the other game. It is only an example.

I also hate all types of Melee lunge. I understand why the sword has one but think it should be maller. I think you shouldn't get one at all with anything but the sword.

EDIT: If your shields repulsed slow moving objects like a knife you would be unable to pick things up because the shields would repulse the object away from your fingers. Anybody ever read Dune? Knives worked BETTER against shields becuase shields only stopped fast moving things like bullets, and a knife could be wielded fast enough to be dangerous but slow enough to penetrate shields. But thats Dune and not Halo.

Known by some, but not by all.
Soffish: Do not eat!
TWP Assistant Director.

Someone said future Armor...with that said future metals would also make stronger knives. At this time depleted uranium is the hardest but because of it's radio activity, it cannot be used by the general public. The next best thing is tungsten carbide steel that is folded a couple of hundred times. SOG makes such a knife now.

So advances in technology would bring harder metals for any weapon...

If they had some really sturdy metal, then with the spartans stregth, I think it may be more effective than wacking people.

Or it will shatter and the Spartans will have a very useful knife hilt.

If it was an energy knife maybe, but steel will not be very effective.

Speaking of ballistics, has anyone seen that Spetsnaz ballistic knife? Greatest knife ever.

You do realise that you can't go further than the 60th minute in an hour right?

Yeah ok, maybe not in Canada...

I doubt any knife would go through future-armour and shields so I think its pointless

Who said the enemies in the game are going to be using future-armor? What if for the majority of the game we fight Rebels and small ground forces like Grunts and Jackals. In the books thats mainly who the Spartans fought anyways.

Who said the game if completely focused on the battle for Reach?? Where are you people with all of the expert knowledge of this game coming from? Where are you getting your inside info? This forum is a speculation forum. No one in here can tell you yes or no to anything that isn't covered in the trailer, and even then things can still be changed by Bungie. So stop lieing to people and start speculating.

I think for the knife, it could be used in MP, as like a shield depleter. I mean I understand the whole armor and energy sheilds, but if we can melee them to death, ,we can at least do some damage with the knife.

Well the teaser trailer deals specifically with the Battle of Reach, so it would be less likely if it does not deal with the Battle of Reach itself.

I'm not saying the game won't include the battle at Reach. I'm just saying that it would make more sense to add some backstory to the ideas of the Spartan and why Reach is around. Not everyone has read the books and can understand exactly why there are 30+some Spartans running around fighting for this place called Reach. It's a prequel, which means it's probably not just some giant level where you fight hundreds of aliens on Reach and then die.

I think it would be awesome if you got a bayonet and just jabbed the little grunts for fun, or kill elites, or kill flood, put it on a BR and AR

I don't think you are allowed to talk about bungie on Bungie.net.

And I suppose hitting someone with the dull, metallic end of your gun wouldn't either?
Last time I checked, that takes down an entire shield.

ACTA NON VERBA

Don't shields only protect against high velocity and high energy projectiles? That's why blades and any low velocity contact at all is able to touch spartan/elite armor.

Every time you say something is old your dick shrinks.

Halo reach may get "griddyer" so i can see a knife

this is not the case because if you read the books it often talks about how the cheif has to turn off his shields to sqeeze throughnarrow corridors in ships and stuff.

You are thinking about Onyx Sentinel shields. Elite and Spartan shielding is constant.

Watch out... I can be anywhere...

Okay one punch can take out an enemies shields but a knife cannot do at least the same thing?

Horrible idea. A knife as a weapon serves no purpose against enemies protected by an energy shield. There is no point having a knife just so you can kill grunts and jackals.
The energy shields only defend against objects going a certain speed. So unless that knife is going 200 mph, I doubt the shield would activate.

There are openings in all armor for mobility. So yes, even with future armor, you could stab someone to deat with a knife. NOW WE CAN MUTILATE OUR VICTIMS INSTEAD OF TEA BAGGING!!!!!!!!!!

If a Spartan can flip over a tank than I think it's more than capable of using a knife.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I think it's a flare or a key or a lever or something that the entire game hinges upon.

But a knife, that is the best weapon that spartan could get for their big cover shot?

With Spartan or Elite/Brute strength, you could push a (very) hardened knife through the actual Elite or Spartan armor. Spartan armor isn't THAT strong. It is just ceramic plates and Kevlar.

Oh, and by the way, for everyone who doesn't know...SPARTAN AND ELITE SHIELDS ARE ALWAYS ON.
