We can assume that Spirit of Fire was destroyed in the space battles of reach

No.

Taken directly from the Spirit of Fire Halopedia page:

In 2534, the Spirit of Fire, previously designated as "missing", was declared "lost with all hands" by the UNSC. The reason for this change was kept top secret. A memorial service was held for the people aboard the vessel, but many of the crew's family members chose not to attend, holding out hope that their loved ones are still alive.[6] Various theories circulated throughout the UNSC as to the ship's actual fate, ranging from being lost during a covert mission for ONI, destroyed in orbit over Arcadia, defecting to Insurrectionist forces, or being stranded in space. When Mary Cutter, wife of Captain James Cutter, was asked about the defection theory, she physically assaulted the reporter.

(Taken from last paragraph of the History section on the halopedia page.)

The only thing this is a sequel to is Contact Harvest and the Cole Protocol.

Oh, and mercy was definitely assimilated by the Gravemind. Proof -

Prophet of Truth after flood infection form attacks Mercy : Noble Mercy stands by my side, his wise counsel forever in my ears. (He was lying to assure the Covenant everything was fine)

Gravemind in reply - We exist together now, two corpses in one grave.

"Die?" Kurt laughed. "Didn't you know?" he told the Elite.
". . . Spartans never die."
Kurt turned his gauntlet face-up and pressed the detonator.

i stopped even looking at these forums a long time ago because as a hardcore fan of the story and not just a game junkie i get pissed that there are very few people the know -blam!- about the timelines involved here and post ( even worse spend a lot of time discussing ) these topics. dont even say you know the story unless you know reach. its the closest thing to the home of the character youve been playing all this time and you havent cared to take five minutes of internet time to check it out on halopedia at least. read a book or two. i dont like the term "noob" but this sht has been out there for a long time.

Mercy is absorbed by Gravemind when the Flood takes over High Charity.

Anyways. Its a prequel, and Im 100% Positive Im correct. Want to know why? In the teaser, they say "Spartans on the ground, sir.".

At the end of Halo 3, there is only 1 Spartan left alive, and the UNSC doesnt even realize he's still alive.

Only one? Are you kidding? What suddenly happened to Kelly, Linda and Fred? Also what I remember is that gray team is alive and well, far away to report their current status and we don't even know what happened to crew of Spirit of Fire.

We have no clue what happened to Spartan-259 and Spartan-320 and all other spartans with them on Reach.

We can assume that Spirit of Fire was destroyed in the space battles of reach

US Navy someone (forget your username, sorry man) already proved that this was not true and that the spirit of Fire is still MIA. In addition to these Spartans listed, there is also the squad of Spartan 3s we shouldn't forget about.
