Are they dead for good?
Are they going to respawn when I leave the area?

It'd really take me out of the experience if I kill some Covenant, complete a mission, then come back to an area I previously cleared and find it repopulated by the same enemies, in the same spots.

I hope the game remembers where I killed enemies, and keeps them dead. I don't mind if a phantom comes by and drops some reinforcements off in a few strategic locations every now and then, but I want my kills to mean something.

My troll sense is tingling.

They respawn ala firefight.

What if a Phantom drops off a new squad of units to replace the fallen squad that you killed...but it does it whilst you're not there. They would probably also remove the bodies from the field. Maybe.

That makes perfect sense to me.

Not whilst you're not there, they get sent to a drop zone and the patrol continues from there.

That's going to be the perfect explanation when the game is released.

Like I said in my first post, if a phantom comes by and drops off a few reinforcements, I'm cool with that.

I just don't want to see the same enemies.

In one of the previews, it's mentioned that there will be Jackal snipers on rooftops and other surprises waiting for the rookie.

That's cool and all but if I see the same sniper, on top of the same building every time I go down that street I'm gonna be a little disappointed.

A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him.

Youre trying to say that you don't want the game to place the enemies in the same spawn spots every time so after you've played it a couple of times it would become very repetitive and too easy since you know where they all are already and can plan your attacks. Right? Because yeah i totally understand you, if only Halo 3's campaign had more randomly placed spawns, I know where every jackal sniper and everything is...

so you don't want enemies to respawn? but then you'd kill them all and the only good parts would be the flash backs in the campaign. me i want insta-respawn

That's a loaded question; Do they, or any of us have "souls"? And if so, where do they end up? God? Vishnu? Buddha? Cthulhu? Heaven? Hell? Valhalla? Scientology-land? Or does nothing happen? Is there only oblivion in the end?

Maybe what ever God or Gods exist because we believe them to? If so, can one assume this extends to the covenant? Do we simply exist simply because someone else believes us to? Would that make them "God"? Or us?

Perhaps this can be best answered not by another person, but rather by deep reflection into ourselves, and through this we can disassemble the illusions of perception, and replace it with a greater sense of self through personal discovery.

I don't know man, it's deep.

I'm willing a sandwich to appear. It isn't happening. Thus, with one test, your hypothesis is false.

Read Friedrich Nietzsche's "Will to Power", and you will find that in a way, you are wrong; to will something to be, you must ACT (making the sandwich).

It could also be a collective thing, I don't know... Or maybe I do, because I believe I do? Do I?

I do.

I have actually read some exerpts from several of Nietzsche's articles. I prefer to have my mind not get celebratory crouched over repeatedly.

Phantoms Repopulate it while your in a different location, and the bodies disappear. Anyway, if you killed all the possible covenant squads, and they wouldn't respawn, it would get boring.

What's hot, sexy and purple?

Ayane (and the Wraith :-D)

it's just a gaaaaame guys. Stop asking stupid questions just because you cant wait for another Halo game.

The bodies probably disappear after while to prevent any kind of performance problem (if the streets are covered with bodies, for example).

Wielding a double-bladed chainsaw, wearing a potato sack on your head and spinning around mindlessly is amiably quick at getting anything done

I like the reinforcements via phantoms. But I don't want them to always reinforce every squad I kill.

Preferably it'll be awesome if phantom reinforcements were randomly timed. You leave the area, timer starts (15, 30 or 45 mins it picks randomly), timer ends and a phantom makes its way to the drop point.

This way you could be on your way back from somewhere and end up smack in the middle of a phantom's drop zone.

But after a while, phantoms stop reinforcing some drop points and start reinforcing newer drop points. ex: The plaza no longer gets reinforced half way through the game but the park now has patrols that weren't there before.

Definitely will keep you on your toes :)
