What do you think the default starting weapons should be in Halo:Reach?

Here are my thoughts.

I was thinking and I'm almost certain that Bungie will include dual wielding into the game. I'm not the biggest fan of dual wielding but have accepted that Bungie and many of the players like dual wielding.

If Bungie is going to use dual wielding then they should do it right. One of the things they should do is have us spawn with a dual wieldable weapon and I think that weapon should be the SMG. Its the only real way to make dual wielding useful, we need to be able to do it right off the spawn. Having two of the same dual wieldable weapon right next to each other on the map like in Halo 3 is fine but everyone knows the effectiveness of dual wielding comes from combinations and running around to get them can take too much time. With SMG starts you can run straight for the pistol/plasma rifle/plasma pistol if dual wielding is your play style. Dual wielding could also use some changes but this isn't the time for that.

The assault rifle could spawn on the map but I think the SMG should be your spawning weapon. The AR should also be better than the SMG, in Halo 3 the SMG seems to have more accuracy, more ammo and a faster kill time.

The second starting weapon should be obvious. It needs to be a midrange weapon. I am thinking he BR. It allows you to be protected right off the spawn and most of Halo's combat is midrange. You also need a midrange weapon to give you a small chance against the power weapons like rockets and sniper so you don't wind up being dominated.

Hopefully this thread doesn't become a flame war.

I think that the weapon you spawn with should be dependent on the map and not the gametyp in default slayer / objective. AR Pistol starts (or whatever equivilant in the Reach sandbox) would be fine again for the smaller maps, but BR AR starts for the larger maps.

The BR wasn't around in the Reach story or the SMG..... I think. i've read the books so multiplayer may end up like Halo CE with the MA5B and Pistol as the starting weapons with limited Human and Covenant weapons to choose from.

The games take place within about 6 months of each other. All of the weapons existed since Halo: CE, it is just a matter of not seeing them all at once.

Both the BR and SMG were around before the Covenant showed up. Although the BR was a prototype at the time the Covenant showed up at Harvest(the book not Halo Wars). I'm pretty sure all variants of the M6(pistols) and MA5(assault rifles) series have been around before the Covenant showed up.

PLEASE USE THIS THREAD TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE DEFAULT STARTING WEAPONS AND NOT TO ARGUE ABOUT WEAPONS.

I think that the default starting weapon should be AR only for small and medium maps, and BR/AR for large maps. Frankly (and this is only my opinion), having a AR/Pistol start only screws me over because I end up picking a weapon I save for later (such as sniper or shotgun) only to switch back to see that I have a pistol, so I have to backtrack to get my AR. I know I can fix this by just switching to pistol, but sometimes I get to caught up in whatever I'm doing and forget about it.

Multiplayer Gameplay
Halo:CE------------------Reach--------Halo2-----------------H alo3
Campaign Experience
Reach----Halo:CE-----------------ODST-----Halo2---------Halo3

Glad that Halo 3 garbage is dead, thanks to Reach.
Unfreakenbelievable!!

A very accurate single-shot weapon, like a Magnum, as primary.
And,
A noobified mid-ranged weapon like the BR but functions automatic as secondary.

Both should be pretty balanced with a power and range advantage going to the Magnum.

The greatist starting combo ever, the MA5B and the M6D, never mess with someone with that combo, otherwise you will meet your end in a hail of 7.62mm or HE rounds......even when you are in a vehicle.(banshees are screwed) Remember kids, never get in a banshee in halo cobat evolved online unless you know what you are doing or if you want to gain deaths, most likely its the latter

i personally think it should be just like its been an ar and br or pistol keep it the way it is its better that way

it all depends on the characters you play if you are playing a spartan or marine you should have UNSC weapons and if elites have covenant weapons. if the UNSC then you could start off with the halo 2 magnum as your secondary and a battle rifle. If the elites than a plasma rifle for secondary and a carbine rifle.

I think a weapon similar to the battle rifle (scope and a decently big magazine; good at close to medium range), but can be fully automatic and a pretty strong single shot weapon for medium range stuff or just the pistol.

Please, please don't have a 'deafault' starting weapon for Reach. The weapons should fit the map. For example a really small, close combat map should have a SMG start, a mid sized map should have an AR start while larger maps need BR starts.
Having a one weapon fits all policy just makes for bad matchmaking.
