Yes the evidence was but will the Sarge actually have the abillity to regenerate how ever small. It would make him a worthy seconday character in Halo 2 IMO.

Regenerate? The sarge can't regenerate, he has Borrens Syndrome from too much exposure to plasma. Since he has that the flood won't have anything to do with him.

I have the book right now, and it says that Sgt. Johnson captured a crate of Covenant plasma grenades and used them all, which gave him a 1200-rad comulative does of radiation. This gave him Boren's Syndrome, which disruptrs the electrical signals to the nervous system. the way the infection forms take over a host is by matching the frequency with the soon-to-be host's neural system and taking over. Sergant Johnson's nervous system was so boggled, they couldn't match the frequency, and he was no use to them.

About the regenerating ability, it is true. Dr. Halsey's very words are "Further blood tests show his sytem bearing traces of Flood DNA-very much dead and noninfectious, but some gene fragments are intact. I believe this is proof of a failed attempt to possess him. It also appears to have imparted him with some curious regenerative abilities, although i cannot yet fully confirm this side effect.

So in short, he can regenerate

ACtually, you took him out of context.. MC finds the pelican and they attach the longsword to it.

Spartans Never Die.

Sarge Johnson has an immunity to the flood therefore he can't get infected. I think that is another reason why MasterCheif goes to Earth to bring them his DNA sample.
