"Bungie President Harold Ryan confirmed that Reach may include Project Natal features"
-Halopidia

"Project Natal is the code name for a "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience" by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game platform. Based on an add-on peripheral for the Xbox 360 console, Project Natal enables users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without the need to touch a game controller through a natural user interface using gestures, spoken commands, or presented objects and images. The project is aimed at broadening the Xbox 360's audience beyond its typically hardcore base. Project Natal was first announced on June 1, 2009 at E3 2009. Microsoft said that over a thousand software development kits began shipping to game developers that same day."

-Wikipedia

I don't know how bungie will make this work. Although I'm sure they will make it work someway.

I think it would be cool and all but I don't think it will be good for gaming.Hopefully they will have a add-on to be able to plug in a controller.

Yeah, possibly for a special feature or something.

I think it would be best if using natal was optional, I don't want to use it. If I want to play with motion sensor controller I'd rather just use a wii.

  • 07.22.2009 6:55 AM PDT

If you wanted to "be in the game" it takes much more than motion sensors. How would you move forward. To walk in the game, unless you used a controler as well (which wouldn't make sense cause your hands wouldn't be free), you would need to walk in real life, ultimately, walking into your tv and knocking it over. If you REALLY wanted this to work, you would need to be put in side of a metal ball suspended in a bowl perfectly sized for it so you can walk without going any where. But then you need a specific visor to wear to see your character and play the game. Also, you would now need a body suite with nodes to transmit your movements to the 360. All of this would be needed unless they either
1. have thought of something new that I am completely missing and have new technology
or
2. you run forward the whole game regardless of how you move in the real world, ultimately passing up enemies you want to shoot.

This may make no sense to a lot of people, but oh well.

Again, lets talk cost. If it is top of the line motion sensing, which it needs to be for a war game, then it will be EXPENSIVE.

Assuming it works as promised, it should be implemented in minor (presumably optional) ways, such as: putting down the controller to pause the game or typing using the voice recognition.

ima reserve any opinions til we get some kind of confirmation on this thats a little more solid than "the wikis said so"

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

Why do you think were getting a beta for Reach? It means that its both controller wise and natal wise.

Why do you think were getting a beta? It shows that it's both controller and natal compatable.

I doubt it will use natal... Halo Reach will probably come out before Natal, and as someone else posted, it doesn't make sense for this game as a first person shooter to use project natal.

  • 07.22.2009 7:37 AM PDT

The device has been modified....

If Natal were to be "Reach - compatible" I'd expect it to be something similar to how the wii zapper works except you get a Halo related model gun with a stick for camera movement, Fire trigger for firing of course and just below that a grenade button.

Now having played with the Wii Zapper it is pretty damn fun XD

the will to win is the will to destroy

if it does have natal it would be good for menus and opening the chat in matches and maybe switching weapons and other practical things in game but i hope you can incorparate natal and the controler

Oops. I think I just lost your mind.

It has voice... how about giving commands to the Marines?

"Snipe the Brute."
"Shoot the Elites!"
"Grenade out!"
"I need a medic!"

  • 07.22.2009 9:45 AM PDT

Microsoft has confirmed the use of accessories is possible. A controller can be a accessory. I.E. Steering a Warthog by tilting your controller right to left?

  • 07.22.2009 9:51 AM PDT

I can't wait to be able to chat on MSN while playing a game for example.

Scenario: Your signed into messenger. Someone sends you a message. Instead of having to stop what your doing, you say ''bring up conversation with Sarah'' or something. Then, you would say what you want your message to be. Natal will spell it out, you say ''send'' and voila!

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

I don't see the problem with implementing full Natal UI into Reach (basically take away the controller). Can someone point out some problems for me please? Oh, here's one:

Posted by: Sabertooth1994
How would you move forward.

Have a hotspot on your floor that your Natal camera targets, and when you move in between that spot and your t.v. your character moves forward. The closer you are the faster you'll run, and vice versa for backwards.

Any more problems?

why can't that be done using the basic headset that comes with the xbox? I don't see how that related to a motion sensor controller at all...

"What's the last thing a dead backseater ever hears from his pilot?"
"Watch this!"

My guess is it will probably be more sports games based.
