So, as you read this, you guys know what I'm talking about, so I'll get straight to the point. Today, Bungie released the Halo: Ten Years video in celebration of ten years of Halo being public. As most of you probably know, the video, which can be found here has 3 snippets of brand new, never before seen cutscenes from Halo 3: ODST. The last snippet is particularly interesting. It shows our lovable squad, in what appears to be an elevator, going up. However, there is one person missing: The Rookie.
Now it would be wrong to say that the Rookie is the main hero of the story, at least with what we know so far. He seems to just be a mechanism to introduce the main heroes to us: Our Squad Mates. And in this cutscene, it seems our lovable squad has regrouped. They are together again, missing one member: The dude who probably managed to piece together what happens and possibly find them all.
I find it weird that the Rookie isn't part of this cutscene. I mean, when we play the game, even though the Rookie is a faceless tool, he is still part of the Squad and not seeing him here, part of the squad makes me question: Could he be dead? Could this guy die after finding out what happened? Could he have died because he found out what happened...killed rather.
If that's the case, then I believe the last few non-flashback missions will allow us to choose which character we play as. In the flashbacks, we get used to each character and the type of play style they require. Allowing us to choose the dude we like most and adopt that particular play style for the final mission seems like an expectation to me, especially if the Rookie is dead.
