Halo Reach will be a MMOFPS

So, there's so much speculation about the multiplayer of reach considering that bungie have to throw out a new beta for it.

Here's my thoughts on what i think the multiplayer will be.

We know it will be a FPS that much has been confirmed, and i think it's safe to say it'll be on Reach.

I think reach will be more like a simulated battle wit objectives laid out to try and conquer certain parts of the map. Sounds ok but i'm talking on a planetary scale, with an ongoing game where there is a an army of players for both UNSC and Covenant sides which are constantly fighting for control of the planet.

Think along the lines of Star Wars battlefront meets the likes of Planetside meets World of warcraft meets command and conquer Generals, but it's not a RPG or a strategy. This is an FPS.

Say you spawn in to the game, maybe via dropship or drop pod and as you drop to your destination you Team/Sides A.I briefs you of your current objective. Say UNSC Troops in the local area must defend this base until further reinforcements arrive, and the opposing mission for players in the covenant army could be capture this base and leave none alive. I hope you get the idea with that.

It could be you spawn in as part of a squad and your squad is given a primary objective, but then after completing that you move on to a new objective based on the games A.I command (this i imagine, bungie would be in control of so the could set up various scenarios for the opposing armies to fight over).

This could see the return of clan, so you have a whole squad or regiment or what ever made up of a clan.

As it is a constantly ongoing game, you would be able to see on B.net which side has gained the most territory on reach.

So in a Nutshell.

You have a MMOFPS, based on reach with two armies in a never ending war with ever changing objectives for each side to try and gain more territory on reach, these objectives would be set out by the A.I. based on completing one objective to go on to another, or set up by bungie on a continual basis. As a player you can spawn in to game when ever you like as either army and you can join in by yourself or even as part of a large squad from a clan. If you die, you might get 20 lives per play before having to renter the game. Take all that and then wrap it in all the Halo lore and add all the races and technology. This would probably just be Humans verses Elites.

Let me know what you think

No. They killed the chances of it being an MMO the week after E3. In their weekly update, they had a question and answer session about reach, one of the questions being along the lines of:

"Will Reach be a Tactical Shooter MMO RPG?"
Bungie replied that it would be a first person shooter, and it would be awesome.

By barely mentioning the possibillity of it being a MMO in their update, they killed its chances.

Its quite simple really, if you are trying to conceal information, you don't even bring up the subject if you have the choice.

If you murder someone and hide the murder weapon in a trashcan in the victems house, you don't show up shortly after the police arrive and say "The murderer is probably too smart to hide the murder weapon near the scene of the crime, I suggest that you just skip searching the house and go to the other neighborhoods, because only an idiot would hide a knife in a trash can."

No ! Not not if they remove host advantage. Thats what we need a massive multiplayer with servers like ( east,west,UK,aussi...)

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I really hope Bungie is putting something totally different together.

I think an MMOFPS would work perfectly with the Halo universe. However, prepared to be flamed. The most common response... "that just wouldn't feel like Halo".

The total ignorance and resistance to change is overwhelming in this community.

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

They would not jump from a small scale FPS to am MMOFPS. Maybe we will see a larger scale, though. I'm hoping for a game with 20-30 players, in Battlefield style combat (shields, melee, crouch jumping, teabagging, etc. would still be here like in classic Halo gameplay) with Halo's classic gametypes scaled up to fit on the larger maps.

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

I will never play another MMO after playing WoW for two years.

Its fun, but its way too time consuming.

Yay another idea on how to ruin halo: reach and make it the last halo game :D
Halo Wars was horrible already, lets let bungie make something even worse!!!

I wonder if bungie looks into these forums from time to time and laughs about the stupid ideas people have about halo: reach.
I should have looked more into the halo 3 forums before the h3 beta, must have been fun to see.
I wonder if the community will ever come up with something good or it will be bs though after bs thought until bungie shows us gameplay of halo: reach and all you kids will see that you failed.
Time Theories were actually funny to read, this just makes me sad.

No, you misunderstand.

It is still halo, still the same mechanics, still the same weapons, still the same physics, vehicles etc etc. It's just the canvas which you play on is larger, your game map is potentially an entire planet. and you work more as a team.

Although an MMOFPS set in the Halo universe would be awesome it wouldn't work with Reach, what with us knowing what happens to Reach.

Get Some!!

I dont care what the majority of the Halo community thinks, change is a great thing. I have been waiting for a mmo fps for a long time. I think that it will be a great variant on the "classic" multiplayer experience. There shoud be the classic multiplayer as well as this idea. Great idea!!

??? Besides the dozens of other posts that have been made about this. I made one well over a month before this one, and I'm pretty sure that I wasn't the first.

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops.. Boasting over 3,000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active b.net groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret.

It's not. You're an idiot.

I don't join any group that spams me in PM so don't try it.
SPAM applies to anything that is copy and pasted, it is very obvious when you do so don't say you wrote it. Also if you argue with me on the nature of things contained in this signature, you will be blocked and never removed. If you send to me in XBox live you will be Avoided, Blocked, and a complaint will be filed for harassment.

Were it so easy.

I love this idea, I really do hope this or something like it is in the game.

You should maybe be able to Have characters on each side of the war, much like World of Warcraft.
