hey ive never posted up here before but i feel this idea merits scrutiny
now ive browsed the forums a little bit and seen a lot of criticism about the balance of the h2/h3 br and the h1 pistol. This led me to thinks of ways to remedy this in Halo Reach.
Think about this concept on the pistol/br debate
In this new game, there would be the normal mid range weapon, the BR. i know a lot of you guys out there who read the books know that the BR was not introduced in Fall of Reach but just listen to this idea anyway, recognizing that at this point Bungie can do whatever they want.
the BR in halo reach would be mainly a mid-range weapon (like h3, hard to kill at long-range, and hard to compete with the dual wields and AR and such at close range). However, in non-hardcore matchmaking a person would spawn with the basic H1 weapons: the AR and the pistol. The AR would keep close-quarters battles even by outmatching the power of a BR at close range (near-melee range) by taking a shield down faster than a br 4 shot to the body would.
however (and this is where my main point comes in) lets say you spawn and theres a guy waiting for you with a BR at mid range. Thats where the pistol secondary comes in handy. the man who just spawned can defend himself by whipping his pistol out and scoping in (halo 1 style at 2X) and shooting at his opponent at the rate the h1 pistol fires. If anyone here remembers h1, they can appreciate the randomized bullet locations of the mid to long-range pistol. This new pistol in Halo Reach would function in the same way, having a much more randomized bullet spread than the BR at midrange, but still having the ability to distract and screw up the shots from the BR player. Although I imagine this new pistol not being as deadly as a battle RIFLE at mid-range distance, it would still make a person familiar with the pistol bullet spread able to defend himself sucessfully and hopefully even kill a person with poor mid-range BR skills. I see this happening by making the pistol a 5 shot kill, and with a 15 round clip.
The catch comes in with the different ways the pistol handles while scoped in, while non-scoped in, and while dual wielded.
Common sense says that if your trying to make accurate scoped-in mid to long range shots with a pistol, a person would have to fire at a slower rate in order to compensate for the recoil that comes from a pistol: thus the suggestion for a halo:CE-style firing rate while scoped in.
However, if a pistol is not scoped in, it would be able to shoot SLIGHTLY faster, but at a consequence. I think, that if a person is not scoped in with the pistol, than the "hip-fire" style of pistol shooting should mean a more randomized and extended spread, making the gun almost useless for mid-range battle, though more deadly at close range, due to the SLIGHTLY faster fire rate.
And finally, while dual wielding pistols, a person should be able to fire the pistols at the same rate as single wielding, but the spread of the bullets should have an even more randomized spread and extended spread than the single-wield pistol. However, being able to fire twice as many shots comes in handy in near-melee range, making the dual pistol a good battle against an AR at close range, especially if the person using them as impeccable aim.
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST, but i think its worth a read.
also, if you have a little trouble understanding what im saying just go ahead and say so, cuz honestly, i was a little tipsy when i thought of this after playing a Halo:CE lan.
PEACE
