Sword clash is unfair and random, so no thanks.

Bring back the Halo 1 melee system, but also bring in a double melee (like the one in the Halo 2 E3 Demo) you do by pressing B-X-B. If you mistime the button presses, you are at a disadvantage similar to mistiming your active reloads in GoW.

Halo PC's melee was the same as the Xbox versions (I, too, only really played the Xbox version, my computers have never been good for games).

Why does it even matter? Its a video game. Its just a part of the game. If they changed it again then people would just find another way to complain about it. The system will never be perfected. Just be happy that Bungie is giving us another game.
It matter because in an AR fight i can drop the enemy's shields and melee, but if he even gets 5 shots on me i'll die too. The game doesnt seem to care that i did way more damage then he did, we both die.

It really depends how they want the game to play. Melee in Halo 3 is pretty much spot on. However, melee combos/grabs/etc. are suitable if the gunplay changes in a different direction

What's the difference between that and if you were both using ARs and you got his health down a bit more then both pulled out rocket launchers?

How is it random? You'll clash indefinately. It's pretty much about learning when to use the melee button over trigger and location. I absolutely pawn at swords.

Clashing would mean you both punch, get pushed back and slightly stunned, then it would become a gun battle again, as if nobody had punched.

Nope, crappy DSL in Maine. It just made more sense. Whoever had the most damage done to them won.

Yeah but If you melee first and I melee 1 second later with more health I should lose anyways. Both systems had major flaws. I think it should have been changed to simultaneous melee was one by the guy with more health but otherwise it would be first to melee wins.

I realised that my post was stupid about 10 minutes after writing it: totally forgot about offline multiplayer :S
There was no melee lunge in Halo 1 was there? That made more sense i guess. It's stupid that when you lunge down at someone whilst in the air you fall faster than normal, no melee lunge would get rid of quite a few problems including probably sword clashes.

Maybe all though I have to say a two kill beatdown makes no sense against a highly trained spartan in a multi alloy layered armor complete with energy shields while spartans have imbreakable bones... Also how does a double beatdown even make physical sense? I think they should take the halo 2 system back or do the pre update beatdown and with the new game engine try to improve who hit first or just see who wins by who has more health, but it would be better if they trust make a whole new system altogether.

I know what you mean but then again that armour was made to protect from bullets... I dunno, i suppose melee is fun and fun is better than realism. I'm OK with the strength of melee just maybe the way it operates needs updating. Taking out melee lunge would be a good thing in my opinion.

Yeah, it really annoys me when i'm shooting someone and then a warthog drives past and you start looking in completely the wrong direction. It works in that situation but when you want it to work with sniper scope tracking or people jumping all over the place while you needle them it does nothing.

Yeah uhh, one thing that annoys me, Energy sword or atleast Gravity Hammer should beat shotgun. They are made for close range yet the shotgun is better then both, and the mauler too.

eh who knows..we will need to play and test it to know for sure..it might be the most revautionary idea ever or it could end up starting ww3..but we won't know untill it's been played like that..

1 randomly placed bullet could determine the victor.

The current Melee Contest is perfect.


The only thing I want them to do, is bring back the Jump Melees. And have more state specific animations for a given Melee. So if you melee in the Air, your melee is different than if you are standing.
