omg not realistic stop game production plz

A while ago, a thread was compiled discussing the possibility of adding Brutes to Reach's multiplayer. Unfortunately, the thread slipped into inactivity a few days later, ending an important Community discussion.

So today I'm here to present to you a list of things that could change Brutes to be worthy of XBL.

- Armour breakoff animation disabled. Since, for all FPS Halo games, the Multiplayer characters must have shields for balance and compatability, the Brutes must have the animation disabled so that their shields don't break at critical point instead of recharging. This will be easy to do, considering Reach is an entirely new game.

- Very minor heigh reduction. Brutes are just a few inches too tall - a little smaller and they will be perfect size.

- A few new animations for the very few weapons Brutes can't use. However it is known that in Halo 3 Brutes could use most human weapons anyway. This doesn't matter though as Reach is a new game.

Some people may say that Brutes will not likely be in Campaign. But in my opinion, they will have a short appearance later on, as further in the attack on Reach, several extra Covenant ships arrived, carrying several of the Covenant species. This most likely includes Brutes. Therefore it is correct to include them in the Multiplayer experience.

Whilst some may reply "NO" without a thought, take this into consideration - people would have been shouting "NO" if I suggested about Elites being in Halo 2 back in 2003.

Discuss, and keep flamethrowers away please.

I think it would be cool to have Brutes in multiplayer, it adds more variety rather than just having Spartans and Elites.

2 things I think.

1) I think the majority of players do not have the same compassion for brutes as they do with elites, so many people were elated to be elites, - I think there would be more people annoyed than happy at the addition of Brutes

2) You have to draw the line somewhere. I think it would start to feel not like Halo when you face a team in Team Slayer 3 v 3, and all 3 of them are different creatures. Customisation must have it's limits.

So it's a resounding no from me. Not just to brutes, but any addition from now on.

I don't understand why people keep asking other people if they are a sugary substance used to spread on bagels and toast.

They do not have energy shields so this will not work at all. Just keep it normal halo with Elites and Spartans.

Aren't brutes kind of too big?

They shrinked the Elites down for Halo 2's Multiplayer - they can do it a little bit for Reach's Brutes.

EDIT: To adidas - Yes they do have shields. Fire a bit at a Brute on H3 Campaign. Reminds you of shooting at someone in Multiplayer, doesn't it? It's because you can hear and see the Brutes shields.

They aren't that much bigger. They may be huge in the books but think about this way: in Halo 2 and 3 you can easily melee a Brute and defeat it. In the books (I haven't read all of them so if I'm wrong please correct me), they are the complete opposite.

Signatures are for squares.

Brutes at the time Reach was invaded, Did not wear power armor. They looked like they did in Halo 2. So Brutes would not work as a multiplayer character.

A common misconception, mon ami! I thought that until very recently, I realised what a lot of people have known for ages.

The truth is that all Brutes wore Power Armour. In Contact Harvest they did, and that was the start of the war. The reason the Halo 2 Brutes didn't is because they were Tartarus's division - they were seen as too tough for needing Power Armour (only tough Brutes made Tartarus's division, very tough).

So every brute on High Charity was part of Tartarus's division? Didn't know that.

Apparantly so. Perhaps only Tartarus's division was allowed on HC at the time, since Brutes weren't very important in the Covenant at that point.

I can't see millions of brutes (Yes High Charity was that large) being part of Tarturas's division. Sorry.

There's No Problem That Can't Be Solved With An Abundance Of Weed and A Jetpack.

There will be no Brutes in Reach, because no Brutes attacked Reach. Brutes would look stupid as -blam!- shortened even a few inches. Keep it Spartans vs. Elites.

In Halo 3 they do. And it doesnt matter because they can add shields since its mulitplayer it wont change Campagin. I NEED to be a brute! Look at all of the Amazing Armor they made for them it would be a waste just to have it in one game. And if there to big then they can shrink them ONLY A TINY BIT! And I dont care if some people are annoyed by Me being a brute i rember people HATED Elites when you can 1st be them in Halo 2. And now people dont care so it'll be the same.

Dude, first off, Brutes will look very stupid if they get shrinked. And Second, "Shrink them only a tiny bit"? Brutes are atleast a foot taller than Cheif. They are alot bulkier to. There is no way you can proportion a Brute to look right holding a BR while still making it look like a Brute. Get over it.

Ninjabag the tea-pirates!

I don't want to join your group.

I wouldn't say no to them but i think i'd stick with elites. There may not even be brutes in Reach though as they weren't introduced mainstream in the covenant until first strike (between halo 1 and 2). However they were in Contact Harvest so hmmm....

get over what? the fact that u dont want brutes in mulityplayer? well i want it to happen and so what if there big look at the dude in the far left he's huge compared to the dude in the center. and look at the tiny girl in the middle of said people.

  • 07.23.2009 8:59 AM PDT

well since you're trying to revive your/my threads i might as well post it again

I think bungie should use the halo 2 brutes, but they will have the armor of halo 3's without any shields. In halo 2 the brutes had a head plate that you shot 3 times to knock it off and once more for the kill... This is how the helmet should fall off in reach. (the body armor should never fall off) after their helmet falls off they should go berserk, but they should try to not show their head.

These new brutes would be given a new role as the grenadiers of the covenant.

Maybe they could sit behind all the other covies and shoot grenades from their brute shots.

there could also be parts were you run into a brute pack, which would have the spiker/brute plasma rifle brutes, and the chieftain with the gravity hammer.

the ranks would be decreased for Halo: Reach.
There would be a minor (has nothing but a helmet and a bandoleer.) looks like this and carries spikers/brute plasma rifles.
a major which looks like this carries a mauler
a ultra which could look like this which could carry brute shots
and of course the chieftain which looks like this which would carry a grav hammer.

now none of these would be as powerful as they are in halo 3, because they would have no shields.

For matchmaking the brute could work. In halo 2 the brutes were hunched over slightly so they were not as tall as halo 3's. So if the halo 2 body plan was used their height would not be too large. The basic body armor would look like this, and their could be different helmets, shoulders, etc. the only difference would be that the matchmaking version has shields (assuming halo reaches multiplayer has shielded players.)

Now this is only a list of what i want, but i believe if brutes were implemented in his way it could be a great improvement to halos gameplay.

There is a bigger difference between Brutes vs. Spartans and those people in the banner. Besides, I'd be making the same arguement if two difference sized Spartans were in the Multiplayer aswell, so your argument is void. And secondly, as I said before Brutes are much wider and bulkier than Spartans, giving them a further disadvantage.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

You should take an image of a Brute standing straight up, then scale it to be the same height as a Spartan standing straight up and compare their sillhouettes. Post it here so anyone who may say know could see. I would like Brutes but I would like to see if their chests aren't too wide proportionally for a simple scale reduction...

Death to rank junkies.

I was surprised when Brutes weren't in Halo 3 multiplayer, seeing as Bungie gave them shields and some built-in armor variants. I wouldn't play as one, but it would add more variety to multiplayer, which is a good thing.

I hope you are kidding.

I'm sick of shooting spartans all of the time during MP. Having Brutes added to MP would be great because it would add diversity online.

AND I would use them.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

I'd say Jackals can be suited to be playable in multiplayer, they could wear armour, they could have energy shields, and they're slightly taller than the average marine.

Variety? Brutes will be the same model as Spartans just with fur and different armor.
