Variety? Brutes will be the same model as Spartans just with fur and different armor.
That, my friend, is called variety.

I think adding brutes, like said before, would add too much confusion, although i personally think it would add better variety to matchmaking. Most of the time I'm matchmaking against a bunch of faceless Spartans, with the occasional Elite. People still prefer the Spartan permutaion because it has more variety to mix and match armour. Elite models only have 25 possible combinations, whereas spartans have over 50 (not exactly sure of numbers, but I know its over 50). If Brutes are added, make more perms than people already know from playing campaign. maybe add more elite perms aswell

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

So every brute on High Charity was part of Tartarus's division? Didn't know that.

Actually, his statement was a misconception so common, someone actually put it on the Halo wiki, and it stayed there. The REAL reason was because the Brutes seen in Halo 2 were actually put into the fight on such short notice, there really wasn't TIME to wear the armor. (considering your first battle against them, the Master Chief TELEPORTS ONTO HIGH CHARITY, which was the LAST thing the Covenant could have ever seen coming. Also, when the Arbiter fights the Brutes (which is Simultaneous to that level) he also Teleported into a Brute controlled region. (The Brutes were not expecting an assault from the Elites, as they had caught all the councilors by surprise, slaughtering them.)

I'm not entirely sure about this, but, ignoring the fact that we saw brutes in halo wars, which, evidently, happened BEFORE Reach, yet the crew of the Spirit of Fire was going home at a not lightspeed pace, and that brutes didn't seem to be known to the U.N.S.C. until the Covenant Civil War. So, assuming all that i have stated is correct, having brutes added into multiplayer for Reach, wouldn't make sense, right? I'm not against the idea of adding the brute character as a playable character, but it just wouldn't seem to make sense.

Play that level again, Serena clearly states that Brutes were responsible for the attack on Harvest (the beginning of the war) so yes, the Brutes HAD seen UNSC before, and vice versa.

It's just not going to happen.. i don't want to sound like Debby Downer, but it's just not.. it's too unbalanced, unnecessary, and down right a dumb idea.. Im sorry just no

No thats just retarded. If i don't want to play as a Brute nobody should be able to. /sarcasm

Seriously though, there is no good reason not to include Brutes if Elites are playable as well. Variety in player models is good. If you don't want to play as a Brute then don't. They can still be in the game anyways.

Dude, first off, Brutes will look very stupid if they get shrinked. And Second, "Shrink them only a tiny bit"? Brutes are atleast a foot taller than Cheif. They are alot bulkier to. There is no way you can proportion a Brute to look right holding a BR while still making it look like a Brute. Get over it.

acctually, no. brutes are the same size as the mc, and they can hold it with one hand, like they did with the shotgun in h2, there [/tread}

WTF? How is it unbalanced? The Brutes are similar to Spartans, if anything they would be more balanced for multiplayer than Eltes. Everything is unnecessary so thats a horrible excuse. Hell the human race is unnecessary because if we were all gone who would miss us? Overall STFU and stop being stupid.

A well-built sniper rifle is a beautiful thing. Mine has two separate levels of zoom: 'Up-close-and-personal' and 'Hello-you're-dead'.

But Brutes are bigger than spartans and elites.
So Brutes would be easy targets.

  • 07.23.2009 11:30 AM PDT

there is no problem with the brutes, they are stronger yes, but their melee is slower... that is the only difference.

And they are taller, but that is something minor... it doesn't matter...
they aren't much taller than elites...

okay here is how tall a Brute is to a Elite (keep in mind that this is Halo 2 and in the Multiplayer the spartans where a little taller then the elites) heres the link

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/7/70/Scale.GIF So the spartans would be in the middle of them. And the brutes would be a ltiile bit more of a target. But Not by much.

that doesn't make sense, the brutes are like stronger elite, it would be a good adition to the multiplayer, anyway only bungie knows what are the real problems. We know nothing... we can only say our opinion

  • 07.23.2009 11:50 AM PDT

the elite's head is down, thats why they seem smaller, they are just like the brutes.

They are in Halo 2 and 3, as for Halo: CE, I haven't played it in a while so I forgot.

Elites are hunched because they're bigger than Spartans too. A small Brute is about the same size as an average Elite, then hunch him down a little.

EDIT:
Brutes
Height

8.9 - 9.2 ft (2.72 m - 2.80m)

Eites
Height

8'6 (262 cm) (Varies)
They hunch over to about 7'2 in combat

I wouldn't say no to them but i think i'd stick with elites. There may not even be brutes in Reach though as they weren't introduced mainstream in the covenant until first strike (between halo 1 and 2). However they were in Contact Harvest so hmmm....

We have only known part of the story of Reach so there is a slight possibility that Team Beta could have been over ran by Brutes.

  • 07.23.2009 12:09 PM PDT

Were it so easy.

A good Idea, but yeah, there armor needs to stay on. I don't like how they look without it anyways.

I'd prefer Grunts, but like... scaled up to 3 times their normal size.

  • 07.23.2009 12:39 PM PDT

Life is interesting...

A brute in multiplayer...

No, wouldn't work.

I do believe elites and spartans are along the lines of equal. Brutes are just dumb.

Have you ever even played halo? brutes are like two inches taller than spartans. if they get shrunken a little bit they will be about the size of spartans. i think it would be so cool to have brutes in multiplayer.

Here comes Tulkas

They wouldn't need to scale the Brutes at all. If they are "too big" and are easier targets in multiplayer, level that out with them having the ability to sustain more damage. I remember in Halo 2 that it took FOREVER to kill a Brute (when I didn't have a needler or sword). So bump up the Brute's tolerance of damage.
