Brutes at the time Reach was invaded, Did not wear power armor. They looked like they did in Halo 2. So Brutes would not work as a multiplayer character.

A common misconception, mon ami! I thought that until very recently, I realised what a lot of people have known for ages.

The truth is that all Brutes wore Power Armour. In Contact Harvest they did, and that was the start of the war. The reason the Halo 2 Brutes didn't is because they were Tartarus's division - they were seen as too tough for needing Power Armour (only tough Brutes made Tartarus's division, very tough).

Hate to tear your logic to peices but In Contact Harvest Tartarus himself wore power armor and then took the power armor from his uncle after he killed him in the elevator shaft of the Destroyer...

And just to point something out.

In Halo : First Strike. When the Spartans Boreded the Unyeilding Heirophant Cortana came over the com in S-117's helmet warning him of a new Covenant species. Brutes. She said that they probably posed no threat because if they did then the Brutes would have been used in previous engagements.. Therefore the writer of Contact Harvest FAILED it was stated in a book that came out almost 2 years prior to the realse of Contact Harves.

There will always be light within the darkness and never forget that.

brutes could be fun to play as, and they could be useful for machinima.

so how did the writer fail?

Visit my youtube channel for Vehicular awesomeness!

I would love to have Brutes included in the multiplayer experience, I was surprised they weren't playable in Halo 3. Halo Reach would be the perfect opportunity to dish them out.

Those WOULD screw up the hitboxes. Brute, even though they are supposed to be much bigger, are actually almost the same size as spartans.

This would just give angry SWAT players another thing to whine about on the forums.

There should only be one or two player models in Reach. Besides, who would want to play as a Brute? Those things are freakishly tall, and just look like gorillas.

  • 07.24.2009 6:31 PM PDT

Well well.

I am seeing lots of legitimate arguments here, and I respect that. But many of you are forgetting one very, very big point. The point is that in -Multiplayer- , or -Matchmaking- , the Players or the AI, or the Computer or whatever, are NOT creating/making/defying the history of the Halo Universe. Why? Because Multiplayer and Matchmaking NEVER happened in history, ever. Why the heck would Spartans be fighting eachother? Or Elites? They wouldn't. You all are mixing the Halo Universe's Lore and History into our real life, as in, US playing Multiplayer / Matchmaking.

Now, allow me to address my opinion on Brutes. I am also seeing other Members of this here Forum talk about rescaling the Brutes, or the fact that they can't be rescaled. Well, I think Bungie is -more- than capable of making a playable Brute character for all of us to enjoy, and headshot, and beat in with a Gravity Hammer/etc. I am definately, 100% for the addition of Brutes into Multiplayer/Matchmaking, but I do admit, there are other things that must be added to the Brutes in order for them to function correctly in the Matchmaking/Multiplayer world.

Armor; I have seen something similar to this topic in this thread before, but the main reason why you see so many Spartans, and not many Elites, is because the Spartan character has a plethora more of armor choices. The Spartans have their Security Armor ( Which I use. ), the Hayabusa, amongst others. The Elites only have 20 armor pieces in all, although, there aren't many variants of the Elites in the game's Campaign anyway. But the Brutes on the other hand, have many different variants of power armor and such, and by creating or adding afew more, could provide someone playing a Brute character on Matchmaking/Multiplayer with a surplus of choices, and just what kind of helmet he/she wants to headbutt those fiesty Elite's teeth in with.

Size; I am -completey- for the addition of Brutes, but it's no fairy tale that Brutes are somwhat taller than a Spartan or an Elite, even by the slightest bit. They also have broader shoulders, bigger arms, and a wider chest. This could be a problem, as Brutes being a bigger target, they would be easier to hit, not in the head really, but just catching those extra SMG or Assault Rifle rounds would be a real pain in the butt! Now, like I said before, I am sure Bungie is -very- capable of creating a Brute for use in Matchmaking/Multiplayer, so I wuold advise you all to have no worries about -this-.

Animations; Yes yes, we all know that Brutes have a funny jump animation, and that they like to yell at you when you break their armor/shields, but this would, and could not be carried into Multiplayer/Matchmaking. The Brutes would need a steady, easy-flowing set of fluid animations, like the already stunning animations of the Spartans and Elites. If Brues were implemented into the game, they would need to look -just- as good as the other characters.

If these three wishes for the Brutes were fulfilled, I am -sure- they would make a great addition to the Halo Online Expierience, or any fun you want to have at home, with your buddies. Now, before I depart, I just want to remind you, that in Matchmaking/Multiplayer, we are -already- going against Halo's Lore and History, so putting Brutes into the game would make as much sense as adding Grunts. SENSE, I said. Do not put Grunts into Multiplayer, rofl.

Hoping that Brutes will be playable in Halo: Reach...

Numeral uno: Brutes are my favorite species and I am very -sad faced here- that they aren't in multiple player

Numeral dos: saying Brutes shouldn't be in multiplayer because their dumb is about as a legitimate arguement as me saying elites should be taking out because of their severe arthritis coditions in their knees or because they refuse to use a tooth brush once in a while (seriously VINES are growing in their teeth and I've never seen so much gingivitus in my life)

Numeral tres: Brutes are taller, yes we know. 1) keep em that way and make their health slightely stronger, (brutes can take more punishment, their toughter and stronger than elites and spartans I THINK. maybe not as quick). 2) shrink em a tiny bit, which im not really all for....but whatever i really don't mind being taller, and or bigger target, it's more of a challenge for me plus I would love to hear the reaction of someone's failed snipe after I railed em with myfist/weapon.

Number 4: Pretty much most of the animations for the Brutes have already been done, and for people complaing, "but what would it look like a brute holding a BR or shotgun wah wah wah!!". Well simple, make em badass an make em use it with one hand or MAKE IT SO THAT IT LOOKS LIKE A BRUTE IS HOLDING A CARBINE, BEAM RIFLE etc etc.

Number 5: More variety, im really getting tired of seeing elites and spartans T.T

Number 6: IF we are talking story wise, the Brutes were basically ONE of the first species the UNSC met. They were BEFORE Reach, and therefore WERE in the Covenant. They also did have powerarmor at the time. If you wanna continue this I will....

Number 7: If you don't like them then don't play as 'em you friggin cry babies.

Im all in for Brutes in Reach/MP, thanks for reading let's keep it movin'

Sure for customs, and social matchmaking, but bungie needs to cater to the hardcore fans for ranked gaming. They need to make ranked purely spartans.

thats just ridiculous, i think bungie is smart enough to realize that the best character model to put in halo 3 would be gnomes. Clearly they are the only model that would be balanced enough to cater to the hardcore crow.

P.s. You were a better matchmaker then whoever the -blam!- does it now. Its just a disgrace now.

Check Out my FileShare.
I was once on Bungie Faves. (Feb.7-15)
I'd like to know why I can't see the signatures of others of myself on the forum. I have made favs once, 7777 campaign kills, and I helped bring modders down when they were at their strongest

Here is my say, I would most likely play as a Brute sometime in the game, but it would be a fun experience.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I think it would be cool to have Brutes in multiplayer, it adds more variety rather than just having Spartans and Elites.

I'm not a huge fan of elites in halo right now, but in the lore of the game it works. Elites form an alliance with humans during the Halo series, so fighting humans alongside Elites makes sense. Brutes are hated by Elites EVEN MORE than the humans hate them. They couldn't even set aside their differences to defeat a common foe (humans), yet the humans and elites can.

Brutes are 100% covenant. Elites touch that grey area in multiplayer. Brutes thusly, have no place in the multiplayer system.

And your point is that in campagin (which is totally different then multiplayer and only has 2 thing in commom w/ it)(1: wepons 2: spartans and elites) the Brutes are covie 100% and cant be in multiplayer?? But wait isnt Halo Reach BEFORE halo 1, 2, and, 3 and the elites are covie 100% in that time period?? Arent they? (yes i've read the books and i'm smart) so your point is like dead

It's just multiplayer. I expect you want to know why Blue team and Red team are trying to snipe each other on Narrows? It's mp, for fun, the story doesnt matter.

On Waypoint I'm rocketFox;

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

I don't see why Brutes couldn't be in the game as a multiplayer model. Scaled down. They have energy shields and lots of armour variations and are as strong/stronger than Spartans and Elites.

Variety is good.

"If buttered toast lands buttered side down, and cats always land on their feet, then what happens when you attach buttered toast to the back of a cat?

If the first thread wasn't popular, what makes you think people would like the idea a second time around? As seen in campaign, Brutes seem to be a lot more stupid than Elites, and having to shrink them down to size to fit in with Spartans and Elites in MP will look kinda retarded.
