the will to win is the will to destroy

I never really understood that. I mean, this game is fare from realistic by why only a select few weapons, or the ones considered "accurate" can only make headshots? These weapons being the BR, Magnum, Sniper, Beam Rifle, and Carbine.

Is there really any point to using another gun when you can toss a grenade a make a easy headshot with the BR? Whereas automatic weapons, which already have terrible range and a completely unrealistic spread cannot perform a headshot?

I understand certain weapons not being able to perform a headshot, such as the spiker or energy based weapons, or maybe stray pellets from a shotgun or mauler blast. But i don't think its not reasonable for an AR or SMG to at the very least be granted a slight headshot multiplier.

What do yout think?

Think a rocket launcher with a headshot the flaming it would create but anyway its not unrealistic spread and how would a 1 extra point beat a br with like 5 or 10 extra points per headshot

There is no game under the sun where you can actually get a headshot from an explosion.

And yes it is an unrealistic spread, if a augmented super soldier reinforced with the weight of half a ton felt that much kick from a common infantry weapon even during slight burst, that is unrealistic. try shooting a wall once in a while. you'll see what i mean.

you have never played a battlefeild game have you?

Well, if you wanna get extremely realistic, they could probably make it so that you could shoot all you like at an arm or a leg, but not kill them- in real life, a shot to a limb won't kill. Ever. Bleeding out, yes, infection, yes, but the shot itself? Nope.

Realism isn't always a good thing.

Glad that Halo 3 garbage is dead, thanks to Reach.
Unfreakenbelievable!!

It has to do with the way Bungie deals with headshots. They would need to change headshots to deal more damage than body instead of just when the shields are down. The current game weapon design only allows for headshots after the shields are depleted. If that same model was used for the less skillful, automatic weapons, then that would severely decrease the skill involved.

Now...
After saying that, it is possible to have a skillful balanced game design with all weapons dealing headshots. So, I'm not sure where some people get this idea that certain weapons will be overpowered or whatnot. The truth of the matter is you can, and have a well designed and enjoyable experience. However, that may only be possible if some of the mechanics of Halo are altered, as in the whole shield and health system that is used.

Red Faction:Guerrilla is an example of a game that really does a good job of balancing the weapons with all dealling headshots. There are many other games (namely Gears, Cellfactor:PW, COD4) that handle headshots very well, but use just a health system with no shields involved.

So, in conclusion, it is very possible to design all weapons to deal headshots. But, the current shield +health system would probably need to be adjusted.
