Subject: Confirmed: ODST Has an Upgraded Engine

Yesterday I got the new OXM, and it said ODST has a heavily upgraded engine. Thoughts?

Bungie said that they just got smarter with the Halo 3 engine.
So unless you count that as an upgrade then yes, it is upgraded.

It does, but it has been upgraded since Halo 3 was released.

I.E. New shading system, and Bungie said they made more out of the engine then they thought they could.

What spectagon are you in?

It's the same as the halo 3 engine but with a few changed.

"We are the next generation of soldiers, an A.I built for war. We battle the darkness for humanity. We are the Caedus A.I"

If Bungie had a little more time with Halo 3 they probaly would have made the engine like ODST's

I didn't notice any major improvements when I saw the trailers for ODST, so I doubt that the engine has been heavily upgraded.

Its upgraded a little, and its still the halo 3 engine, and Bungie employees have learned much more about the system, so they can do a lot more with it, they explained this about their skybox artists.

So basicly when Halo 3 came out, Bungie was not using it to its full potential and they were like monkeys, now they are educated

SAid this like a week ago...

Bungie said this months ago.

I heard it was the same engine as Halo 3, but Bungie did not realize the full potential of that engine.

It is the same engine, but it has some upgrades that makes it do better things.

Also, a few of us were talking during matchmaking and Halo: Reach is definitely going to be, not a first person shooter, not a third person shooter, but a second person shooter. Bungie is going to revolutionize the way you watch other people play games.

As with all engines, the boundaries of the Halo 3 engine can be played with. Utilizing the same software to perform more complex and diverse tasks isn't an upgrade - it's the adaptability that comes with smarter programming and familiarity with the software. Both of those things take time, so it's only natural that ODST will look/run a little bit better than Halo 3, despite operating on the same (or similar) software. After all, the developers have already produced an entire game (Halo 3) using this engine - why wouldn't they be better at it a second time around?
