Subject: A quick thought on why Halo Reach may not be based on the book

Received my Recon 7/7/2009 for First Game in Bungie vs The World.

If you think about it, why would it be called Halo?
From what people have speculated, there would be no Master Chief to play as and nothing else to require "Halo" to be in the name. It's not even in the story arc of the Halo games. Also, why would it be called Halo if there was no Halo to play on?

Now Halo 3: ODST falls within the time period of the Halo Game story arc, thus justifying the "Halo" in the name.

Just a thought. Please note that I am not suggesting Time Travel or otherwise, it's just a couple of things to think about and discuss.

I believe its called Halo because its a prequel to halo CE.

Correct me if I'm wrong

The game takes place in the Halo universe.

What would it be called if it wasn't Halo:Reach? Would it just be Reach? Contact Harvest is called Halo:Contact Harvest and contains no Halo Ring. Halo is merely a way of identifying the series/franchise now as if it was just called Reach you may not know it was in the same series as Halo. Technically Halo 3 didn't contain a Halo either.

Halo 3: ODST is called Halo 3: ODST because it is an expansion to Halo 3, it is well before Halo 3.

Anyways, Halo 3: ODST doesn't have a Halo in it.
Halo: The Fall of Reach didn't have a Halo in it. (Unless you count the post-chapter)

Anyways, it is fair to say, Halo: Reach has "Halo" in the title because it is apart of a series. Why is "Call of Duty" called Call of Duty? Why don't they just call it, WAR. Because Call of Duty is a well known franchise.

Halo is also a franchise. Having Halo in the title will actually boost the sales.

  • 07.23.2009 11:47 AM PDT

It's an established IP. It's easier to classify it in the Halo universe that way. Almost like Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 was (from what I know) almost completely Vegas/Casino oriented. Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 barely had any casinos/Vegas themes. It was just to link #2 to the first.

I guess I didn't consider the franchise thing. But, the Call of Duty thing isn't that great of a comparison. Call of Duty isn't a location, it is a thing. They don't call it War because that wouldn't be very creative. Also, War is probably copyrighted, uncopyrightable, and/or has Already been taken

Halo is a brand, not just a fictional location.

Its called Halo because its in the HALO series. You don't change the name just because the game doesn't include a ring in it!

The title "Halo" basically means "Halo universe", not just the ring.

What about the last level? Don't forget about that.

That wasn't really a Halo although it was a megastructure made by the Forerunners. It was the Ark and was separate to other Halos as it was the trigger i believe.

the ark is actually a way for the forerunners to fire the halos when the index was taken out and repair the halos.

Yeah that. But it wasn't an actual Halo ring, more like a planet really.

Ummm..... the book is called "Halo: The Fall of Reach." It has the word 'Halo' in it, even though the story doesn't really involve the Ringworld. So why can't the game do the same thing too?

  • 07.23.2009 1:23 PM PDT

with all do respect... this is a VERY VERY VERY stupid thought...

how would they call it?? Fall of reach?? there is a book called like that, so, no.
m... maybe, Spartans: Reach no it sounds stupid...

Why would bungie do such a stupid thing ??? why not call it Halo??...

Halo is not only a ring
IS THE NAME OF A GAME SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ever heard of Halo Wars? It's like 20 years before Halo CE as compared to a fraction of a year.

Received my Recon 7/7/2009 for First Game in Bungie vs The World.

The reason I brought up the location is that I remembered reading that if the Halo series continued it wouldn't be called Halo anymore... I don't remember where though.

But seeing as how there have been about 20 posts proving me wrong, we can just drop the subject.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

Simple, brand recognition.

Fall of Reach as in the conquest ("fall") of the planet Reach. It doesn't have to be about the novel. First off, we don't see any of the ground battle of Reach in Halo: The Fall of Reach, we don't see the conquest of the planet until the beginning of First Strike (in the flashback chapters). Second off, there were no Spartans named Spartan-259 or -320 in either TFoR or FS... so we will probably be playing through a new perspective as one of the Spartans whose stories were not told in the novels (there were 14 on the surface of Reach with uncertain fates).

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

It is called Halo because it exists in the "Halo Universe" the name is in there to keep it canon to all things UNSC and Covenant.
