Q: Are you left handed, but can't seem to find a game that ever lets you shoot left handed?
A: Maybe Halo: Reach could be that first game to let you do so!

Bungie should create an option to be able to choose which hand you hold/shoot the gun in your hand with (example: picking up say a battle rifle and shooting it with your left hand on the trigger and your body, rather than the usual right hand). I'd like to see this feature because I myself am left handed, and shoot guns in real life left handed, and very used to it that way. Now, I'm not saying that watching a spartan on my screen shoot and hold a weapon right handed is unplayable, but I just think it's more well suited to me, the player.

Also, in Halo's campaign, wasn't the aim of the game to get you to feel like you are Master Chief? Well it's sort of hard to do that when you're forced to play as a character that's right handed when you, yourself are left handed. And if there is no way this could ever be implemented into the campaign, at least try it with multiplayer? You even have a Beta test coming next year! [you could test it then with millions of peoples]

I know that this has never been done before in first person shooter video games [as far as I know] and that probably won't change with this one either, but at least give my idea a chance?

Thoughts?

EDIT: Turns out that the "Left Handed" feature has been in other games before and it's not actually anything new, sorry for the misleading parts about there not being any lefty games.

Counter-Strike lets you use guns left-handed

Ninjabag the tea-pirates!

I don't want to join your group.

It would be good as a customisable thing but i don't see it happening. With a different handed model you would have to recreate every different animation on the other side of the body which would take up a lot of disk space i believe. I'm no programmer so correct me if i'm wrong (i suppose they could always just flip the character model mirrorwise).

I don't see why not.

It's plausible, might bring a little more depth to player customization.

Counter-Strike lets you use guns left-handed

Ah, never played Counter-Strike, I figured some game out there had probably done it before, and someone would come in here naming a game that had it. It's still uncommon though.

This seems novelty at best. A purely cosmetic change that few will care about.
Given the amount of work it would be to do this, I don't think it is worth it at all.

Of course it's purely cosmetic, changing from right to left or vice versa won't effect how straight your bullets will fly. It just adds more customization and more tailoring to the player. Who knows how many people will actually use it, just because you don't think it's such a good idea doesn't mean that it won't get used. [sorry if that came off on the offensive]

yes, but you have to mirror the Animation data. Which could lead to problems. And there are a few optimizations that might exist that could also be problematic if you had everything mirrored.

Which is why it would need to be vigorously tested before it ever went out the door, I'm just suggesting that Bungie humor my idea, not blindly accept it, and shove it out to the world without any sort of testing done. We have no idea if this could work or not, that's in Bungie's hands, I'm merely throwing out the idea of left handed gameplay.

The thing is, guns are made for right handed people. Especially the military, since making two kind of some guns would be a hassle. Also, they train soldiers and police to hold and shoot them right handed.

I would like to see it though. I know it bugs lefties. When people hold guns in their left hand in games it makes me feel awkward. Like un-natural.

that makes sense because most likely the main character S259 is a character that is you.

i don't see why. Who cares if your character is left handed?

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

There's two good points in this thread.

The military does train soldiers and police to shoot right handed so it would be more realistic if your characters continued to shoot right handed.

On the other hand however, it's just a game is it not? I've fired guns in real life left handed (as I am a lefty) and reloading isn't that big of a hassle.

By the way, Quake II also had an option for carrying weapons left-handed. But there was no reloading in that game so it didn't make much of a difference.

Fact 2: European guys are hotter

I guess I can understand if you don't want to make out with guys in the US if they're so ugly, you should just say so though.

It would have to affect your HUD, think about radar and such. Which way would your sheilds drain?

I suppose it would be a nice touch, but probably not the highest priority for Bungie.

Well this game is for mass market and for the fans, and left handed people are a minority of those people. Hate to say it but deal with it, you have for ever, why change now for something that doesnt change anything substancial?

I see your point, but don't like your mentality. "It's been that way forever, so don't question it, accept it, and go on with your lives."

Yes this doesn't change anything in the game. Yes, this isn't a priority, and yes left there are less left handed people in the world. But why not entertain this idea? Why not give it a chance? Will it hurt anything? I think not.

Well, thats means they'd have to do the reloading animations twice.
