Subject: I miss Halo: CE's music

If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

I don't see anyone posting things about this, so that in itself is enough to warrant its own thread. You remember how vast and breathtaking the environments, to the gritty, chilling halls of the flood outbreak where? Do you remember the accompanying music that came with it? There was only one track where an electric guitar was actually used. Other then that, you had a very heavy, almost military beat to accompany you on your marches. Anyone notice that missing after Halo 2? I can't be the only one who noticed it.

Anyways, with Reach announced and little to no information released on it, I ask you this. Should Halo: Reach have a more heavy soundtrack, or should it be replaced with Marty's piano as he did with Halo 3? Seriously, that's what he did. He took out the drums and made the piano the rhythm, taking away a serious trademark of the Halo universe.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I agree. Drums, bass, and monks. That's what makes Halo... well, Halo. Not some guitar, piano, or a -blam!-y nu-metal band.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

I agree with you. Marty should focus less on trying to make the music dramatic, because ironically enough, no offense to the guy, but his previous work sounded more dramatic and breath-taking. I'd also like to see the game have it's silent moments, like Halo 1 did. You know, those quiet moments in Truth and Reconciliation, when you could hear Covenant machinery operate in the background.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

They should go back to the Tribal Beat in the original. Halo 1's soundtrack was awesome becuase it was not over saturated with synths and guitars.

Halo 2 has alot of breathtaking pieces like this and this, but Halo 3 I found to be lacking, except for maybe a few tracks like this.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Halo 3 featured slim to no electric music, but if you listen to BOTH parts of the Halo 2 soundtrack, you will find that ALOT of the music pays very good tribute to the music in Halo CE (there being only around 5 electric tracks in the game)

Cairo Suite, High Charity Suite, and Sacred Icon Suite are VERY good examples of powerful, plot heavy, dramatic music in Halo 2.

(Sacred Icon Suite is actually my VERY favorite song from ANY Halo game... EVER.)

i think halo CE's music stood out so well becouse it was original. H2 and H3 just kinda rided halo 1's dick musically....so ya i think Reach should go with some good new original music

  • 07.23.2009 6:35 PM PDT

Amen!

They really need to revive the Halo CE music, to this day Halo 1 has the best in game music IMHO.

High Charity, hands down, is the best thing Marty has ever written. To me, Halo 2 had the best game soundtrack ever.

And the Gun Pointed at the Head of the Universe remains the best song to listen to as you trog through a foggy swamp shotgunning zombies. I am going to play the song so much in Swamp Fever in Left 4 Dead 2.

The High Charity Suite from my post is actually an extended song that FEATURES High Charity in it.

I personally preferred the Halo 3 sound track the best. It felt like bigger scale, more epic, more volume.

HALO 3 SOUNDTRACKZZZ ARE FAILZZ!1one!.

ok, now to be serious, I dont like teh Halo 3 soundtrack as much as others, redone music (such as Behold a pale Horse, and Leonidas Returns) were all just way better in Halo CE and Halo 2. Also, Halo CE and Halo 2 focused on high drama, and long, slow, deep music, where Halo 3 is all "Oh man, look at the cool Spartan go!" music.

Gah, hahaha. I'm not a flamer. I'm straight.

The thing I like the most about the first game is it just seemed to suit the moment. Yeah, sure. The sequels were great at tempting you into seeing the big picture, but what's important to the Chief is the merciless hordes of foes standing between him and saving the Marines, Humanity, and all existance. I need fight music, dammit! CE did that better in my opinion.

I'd have to disagree.

IMO Halo 3's soundtrack>>>>>>Halo: Combat Evolved's soundtrack.

Did you know most of the music in Halo 1 was done on a computer? Not using a real orchestra. That's why Halo 3's music beat Halo 1's, in my opinion, because it sounds more "real" I guess.
Or, that is what i heard a while back.

My favoirte tracks:
Nerver Forget. The Piano bits makes me almost tear up.
And
One Final Effort Charge! So epic.

It's all the same.

This has to be my favorite track on the High Charity suite. It reminds me how beautiful High Charity was before the Flood crapped all over it. :(

Brothers in Arms was the BEST example of this music from Halo CE. Although it actually reappeared 3 times (in 3 different versions) during Halo 3, in the songs Last of the Brave, This is Our Land, and in complete form in Follow Our Brothers(Which I feel is one of the only songs done better in Halo 3 than CE, but you have to listen till the end to here Brothers in Arms.)

Never Forget was an cheap knockoff of Halo 2's Unforgotten

Also, One Final Effort is an expanded version of Halo 2's Unyielding (which I feel was better)
Actually, an alternate version of Unyielding called Reclaimer also appeared in Halo 2's level Quarantine Zone.

Ah, nostalgia.

Uh, okay now. Halo 3's soundtrack is structurally much better than the Halo CE soundtrack - I think the re envisioning of some of the tracks from the CE soundtrack are a lot better because of their depth and clarity, but I guess I would like to see more homages and remakes of songs and themes from the soundtrack.

But, because this game isn't Halo CE and doesn't fit the theme of the other games, the music is probably going to be fresh and new. Which is good. You can have extracts of themes and songs in Reach, but don't expect a re imagining of Halo CE.

I personally want more of the soft vocal tracks, like the track High Charity from Halo 2, or just straight up drums and vocals, like Released from Halo 3. Great for moments where you're at vista points, trekking along large spaces alone and reflection moments for the former, and straight up combat for the latter.

Actually I found when listening to Halo Reach's trailer, that the music in the trailer was scarily similar to Lament for pvt. Jenkins

I agree. Sometimes when I was playing Halo CE I would just sit there and listen to the music on the menu because it was so well done, but in Halo 2 and 3, they changed it a little too much.

Both of those Halo 2 soundtracks are from the level "Gravemind". Best level in the whole game.

Actually you first heard Peril near the beginning of Delta Halo.

Anyway, I prefer Outskirts, Metropolis, Delta Halo, Regret, Sacred Icon, Reclaimer, and Uprising to Gravemind.
