Elites probably will be back considering Halo: Reach is a prequel.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

I enjoyed the Brutes, but I agree. I hope to see both Brutes and Elites in Halo: Reach. A mix of Elite and Brute led squads. One thats a little more conservative, another thats more brute force. So that we can have that contrast. I think that would be great for varieties sake.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

In addition, I would like a covenant side to the Campaign.

On the one hand, I actually liked seeing things from the inside out, from the Arbiters perspective in Halo 2. However I don't see that happening in Halo: Reach. It worked in Halo 2, because for the most part you were fighting Covenant, or the Flood. If your playing Covenant, and your fighting humanity, in one of the main battles in Halo fiction, it wouldn't make sense.

Hopefully. The Elites sucked in Halo 2 and 3, though, just like the Brutes. I would like the Elites to return with a more Halo 1-esque feel (dodge more, more sturdy, sprint after you, throw grenades, etc.) and the Brutes to return as they were described in the novels. Tear you limb-from-limb if you're not careful.

Considering the Covenant won at reach it actually would.

Did they really win? I believe that they came there for the Forerunner crystal... and they left empty handed. Who knows what would have happened if Truth got his hands on the intact artifact.

They went there to destroy the humans, after discovering the Crystal they stopped their assault. But they had already won the fight there. The last few Spartans died except the ones from the books that BARELY escaped.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they sucked in Halo 2, and 3. I thought both Halo 2, and Halo 3 were good games. But I largely agree that it would be a good thing if Elites returned, closer to their Halo: Ce incarnation, opposed to Halo 2s. I do however feel like Brutes were a big improvement in Halo 3, over Brutes and Elites. And the enemy behaviour in ODST seem to be a step forward also. So there atleast seems to me to be momentum in the right direction.

I don't think Truth cared weither it was in shards, or intact. He claimed it didn't really matter, that it would still serve its intented purpose.

I think the crystal , was an essential component in opening the portal to the Ark. And that was the only purpose Truth ever had for it. In Halo 3, the Forerunnership can be seen in the center of the gate. The platform its on, declines. And as the gateway activates, a single beam coming from the center of the gateway, seemingly through the Forerunnership fires into the sky. The beam gradually gets bigger, and bigger, and eventually the portal opens.

. So I think, there was probably some kind of chamber in the tip of the Forerunnership. Where the crystal shard was placed. And the gateway manipulated the shards power, to open a portal to the Ark.

We don't know if they died. The only confirmed KIAs are Malcolm, 3 others, and Joshua. Isaac and Vinh likely died under CASTLE base, but they could have easily been incapacitated and taken prisoner by the Covenant for some other purpose. We don't know what happened to the 11-man-strong Beta Team, and 3 members from Delta Team are unaccounted for. They could have found some other ride off of the surface.

Cheehwawa, you seem intent on your "Beta squad" theory, yet you forget that Much of beta team was Spartans who were too injured too move, or had other severe injuries.

No, that was Team Delta (Will, Vinh, Isaac, and 3 unnamed). Team Beta was comprised of uninjured Spartans and Spartans with injuries similar to Fred and Kelly (minor).

The majority of the wounded and healthy Spartans were formed into Team Beta. Their job was to defend the generators at all costs. To compromise this mission meant the fall of Reach. Not much is known about what Team Beta did during the battle, but they ultimately lost the battle. Most of the generators were destroyed, but not due to the Spartans incompetence, but rather from overwhelming forces. These Covenant attacks in mass easily overran the few Spartan defenders, allowing the Covenant to destroy the generators the Spartans were protecting. This dismal failure and complete waste of lives was likely due to inadequate time to set up defensive emplacements, and/or inadequate time to develop an ideal strategy by Fred.

This is from Halopedia, so its not official. When they landed, Kelly said that most Spartans had "minor wounds" (including Fred and Kelly) whereas six of them could not move (they would become Team Delta), so the Spartans of Beta were as fit or in better shape than Alpha and Gamma Team. And we all know that they were successful.

Halsey mentioned that there were VERY few MIA Spartans that were ACTUALLY MIA. And she knew which ones they were. There could only have been 10 or so REALLY MIA Spartans. Almost all of them really are KIA.

HAIL HALO!

Im actually more for the Halo 2 style Elites and Brutes, I felt the Elites were a intelligent challenge while the Brutes were straight out just powerful giving a nice variety.
