Yeah same, nothing left to do. This forum is pretty barren compared to the H3 one.

It's a shame people seem to care more about BR spread than a brand new game mode. Ah well, time to hit the hay.

So, what difficulty did you play on? It definitely doesn't sound like Legendary. Heroic? Normal? I'm interested in hearing how the difficulty in ODST compares to Halo 3.

There was one wave in a playthrough there where a squad of hunters and jump-pack brutes were up against us - one of the brutes flew around, got above me, and stuck me in the face killing me instantly, while the hunters ran around forcing my team into cover, where they died by the wraiths mortar.

Running slower than in Halo 3 doesn't help you escape wraith mortars. We lost with all of the hunters dead, but a couple of the brutes and one wraith left up.

To answer questions above, the hunters did appear golden in a certain light, but no elites. The pistol can build pretty massive recoil if you semi-auto fire it as fast as you can, so it's good to place your shots well, and the SMG still "walks" upwards. The two weapons are definitely keepers if you're sure you don't want to swap them out for other weapons. The SMG is great for killing jackals and eats brute shields quickly, and the pistol is pretty magnificent as a weapon, it really isquite well designed.

I couldn't really hear a lot of the ODST chatter because of the noise, but each character has their own dialogue, and phrases are appropriate. Lots of "boom headshot!" and beat down chatter going on. Brutes are particularily talkative, constantly telling their buddies what you're doing and how you're going to die...over and over again. I don't think there's a sniper rifle on security zone either.

I believe you are mistaken, SpAmMeR. The E3 Security Zone Saved Film showed Mickey carrying a sniper rifle. Just check the IGN Demo or any other demo that includes the saved film.

I honestly never picked it up, I was having to much fun with the pistol and SMG. We played on Heroic difficulty, which was a pretty good challenge, lots of wraiths. I definately think that the SMG is a more fun weapon to use than the BR, nobobdy at the Demo seemed to care about no BR.

What was the AI like?

They pretty much hunted you down unless you got to them first, and I mean right as they jump off the phantom. If you don't kill at least 1/4 of them as they jump off, you're going to be in a bad situation. Also, Wraith drivers are amazing shots.

It was just hard to find. i couldnt find the splazer or sniper, so I just stuck to SMG Auto-Mag and turret. And those seemed to work magnificently.

This gameplay looks/sounds great. Looks like I'll be able to break out the old pistol/plasma pistol combo to take down all the Brutes, which is how I like to play through Halo: CE against the Elites.

Of course, this will change once the Tough Luck skull activates and the enemies dodge all the overcharged shots, but that's part of the fun of Firefight!

Tough luck is the first skull that turns on. It really only seems to efffect grenades. Though they do doge out of the way of Plasma Pistol fire, its not the AIs primary concern.

can you duel in odst?

  • 07.24.2009 9:05 AM PDT

Ninjabag the tea-pirates!

I don't want to join your group.

So melee is the same strength, hmm that makes little sense. How easy is it to die and how quickly do you regain stamina? Do enemies drop health packs?

Melee is a little less than spartan level, (According to Brian) Stamina takes awhile to recharge and it is very easy to die if you're not careful. Enemies do not drop Helath packs

Do you feel like an ODST? Is there much difference with how high you can jump and how fast you can run?

  • 07.24.2009 9:17 AM PDT

It is what it is.

My real gamertag is Boomerf16.

What was your tactic for taking down the wraiths? Did you use the splazer, rockets or board and nade?

You definately feel like an ODST, fall damage, health system, slower running and lower jumping all contribute to this. I generally didnt get a chance to take out wraiths but I used Board and Nade when I had to. Very hard to do, Wraith turret guys are a lot harder to kill.

Does the red tinge around the edge of the screen (The one which appears when you are injured) put you off sometimes? Because it seems like it would.

No, it was very helpful actually. It does take awhile to go away though. Also, some arrows conveniatly pop up to show you where you are being shot from.

How strong are the enemies. Obviously you're not a spartan so one shot from a brute shot should kill you really right?

it takes like 3-4 brute shots to kill you. Grunts and Jackals seem a lot bigger than they used to be, but thats because we're not as tall now. Other than that, enemies are still the same strength. You just arent as strong.
