Alright so I've heard (you probably have too, excuse me for being a noob) that the ODST campaign will be shorter than Halo 3's. Is this true? And what's the original source of this information?

I mainly play Halo 3 for the Campaign. I'm always disappointed about there being only like 9 levels. By now I've come to memorize them all. I want to buy ODST to play the new campaign, but do you think it'll be worth it seeing as it'll be shorter than Halo 3's? Correct me if I'm wrong about anything.

I'll hold the rope..... and the camera. 'Cause I'm a multitasker like that.

As agile as a cougar on a young man.

Ok, if you say so boss!

Wildcard Machinima!

It's true the campaign will be shorter be like an hour or two, but it's open world. Open world games take longer to get through because you have choices to make, plus there's these clue/intel items you have to find.

EDIT: Please don't complain about it.

Sorry for the complaining. Well open world seems pretty cool, so I suppose I can still look forward to this game. Not to mention Firefight which will be awesome.

Get in the flask!

yeah he has a point... but even then i like to have more campaign, bigger maps, loads of exploration, no barriers and variety of wepons so it is playable more than once but if i complete the game in 5 hours im gonna be annoyed for waiting 3 months for a game (since it has been hyped up so much)

the last time bungie said it was shorter was way back when they first announced the game

then when they showed gameplay at E3 this year they said the game has grown larger than previously estimated and it has become a full game.

the game could quite possibly be as long as halo 3's campaign

the truth is that no one knows, it may have become a longer campaign, it may not have.

i personally don't think it's as long as halo 3, but if you don't rush through the open world as fast as possible it may be longer.

No, I wasn't saying you were complaining. You just asked a simple question. Most people start threads that trash ODST because they say that; "ODST is only $60 because you get all the maps and Halo 3 campaign (whine, whine, complain)." But I say it's a fair price! Bungie and Microsoft were just being nice by adding the Halo 3 multiplayer and trying to standardize Halo when they added all the maps on the disc.

It looks like it will have as many levels as Halo 3. Plus firefight is campaign-ish.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I read that ODST was gona be a full game, so it would have ALOT more then 2 - 3h of campaign.

I remember some time ago that Bungie said that ODST's campaign would be around 4-6 hours. Then I heard that the campaign content had actually doubled. I think it would be much better for us to wait and get the game to judge for ourselves how long the game is.

In my opinion, it'll be longer than Halo 3's campaign. I finished that in, what, 5 hours? Very short campaign. Free roam would make for a longer campaign and more replay value.

My troll sense is tingling.

The missions alone are longer than Halo 3's campaign, then add the open world on top of that.

Ich bin Reptar!

Bungie says it takes up to 5 hours to beat the campaign.

Maybe on Legendary, it will be longer because you'll have to strategize your attack. So if you're complaining that this game is too short, play it on Legendary.

Also there will be FireFight. That'll last for hours.

You should buy this game since it will take a while to beat and it's really fun. (It's a Halo game, of course it's gonna be fun!!)

It MIGHT not be as long (please hence MIGHT) but they might add in a bunch of side missions where you have to save a marine squad, or maybe turn on a power switch or some type of objective so that you can get to the flash backs, would bungie really make it so that there is a big circle and you have to go around it trying to solve a clue? (well maybe.) but to me that would be interesting, so they probably have added some things to do at night, instead of just flashing back to the day.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Depending on your play style; the campaign can last up to 7 hours. Enjoy...

Duracell.
I don't keep going and going and going and...
but i Start, and just don't Stop.

So what if the saxophone is black?
it has better tone the the gold one.
damn straight i play Jazz.

the game was originally going to be shorter, but grew into a full game. Bungie told us this.

as the game has 6 missions at about an hour of gameplay each and about 30 to 40 minutes 'travel time' between missions(source: podcast, Marty) it will total between 9 and 10 hours.

I think it's going to be shorter than we all hope for. But that's only because we have crazy expectations.

Marine Corps.
Semper Fi.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Like mentioned before, no one knows. They said it would be shorter, but that was a very long time ago and Bungie has said numerous times that they have expanded on the game by a lot.

If I were you, I wouldn't get my hopes up about a super long campaign, but in my personal opinion, I think it will be longer. Mainly because of the open-world.

  • 07.26.2009 3:58 PM PDT

Well supposedly it's supposed to be around Halo 3 length now, which means 6 hours or less.

Spartans are from Venus and Elites are from Uranus

How are any of us supposed to know with out having played it ourselves? Lars Bakken said that if you rush through it it's a little shorter than Halo 3, but thats rushing through it. ODST is an open world game taking place in the huge city of New Mombasa. I'm sure that if you take your time and enjoy the game and explore the nooks and crannies you may get more out of ODST's campaign than you ever did from Halo 3 and maybe even Combat Evolved.

Besides, I'm sure with meta game scoring, different difficulties, skulls and easter eggs you could put in alot of time in ODST.
