I disagree with the people out there who state the silhouettes are all Spartans... My opinion is there is only one in the picture the rest being Marines:

*The biggest one is indeed a Spartan because of the silhouette and especially by his shoulders which feature the signature backpack (power packs?) plus the helmet, but all the other figures are lacking that same silhouette no backpack and no signature helmet.

*Plus aren't all the Spartan II's armor the exact same with no variation (no difference between male or female armor [bulky vs. slim]) except for height as on the Fall of Reach book cover and never varied in the descriptions of the Spartans Armor.

*Armor Variation was only implemented for gameplay in Halo 3, it was never mentioned in any books to this day including Reach and canon-wise only feature the Mark V, VI and SPI armor. Who has seen the other variations on any other source of Halo media other than Halo 3? (Halo Legends may change this but it's anime so everything is stylized.)

*There was never any armor attached peripherals that the Spartans used on Reach, while all the rest of the figures in that picture have differing peripherals: two have one huge flashlight on their left and the sniper has a backpack and maybe binoculars on it's helmet.

More comparisons in pic: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/File:Comparison.jpg

Sidenote: Those who state it's Spartans without armor ponder this. Spartans have only on two maybe three occasions taken off their armor (MC in The Flood and when the SPARTANS were swapping damaged components with new M-VI parts in First Strike). This was also only done when fighting was not occurring or while resting. Why would Bungie be marketing armor less, or half armored Spartans if they've always been marketed as faceless heroes (Not counting rare occasions in comics and descriptions in books).

A 7ft tall ODST?

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

We will see. Anyways, does the banner really matter? What if the banner really has nothing to do with the game?

Thats my beef too.
I'd like to think it'll be a cod 4 like scenario and well play as all sorts of forces.

Tallest one is Spartan, second tallest is a Marine and is at the forefront of the picture making him look taller than the other Marines.

Your comparison picture fails, you only compared them to the Mark VI armor and you only have one picture of it, you also fail at showing the backpack on that ODST. It wouldn't make sense to have one spartan on the left and then some random marines/ODST next to him.

  • 07.24.2009 4:15 PM PDT

Well you're forgetting a couple of things, there are several types of armor.

Honestly, I'm more suprised people aren't commenting on the weapons.

The big guy is carrying what looks like a portable turret which might be to differentiate snappable weaker turrets with stronger non breakable ones.

The guy to the furthest right has a different type of sniper.

The guy to his side has a knife.

Why wouldn't it make any sense? Seeing as Bungie only used Halo 3 -era objects for ODST even through it takes place during Halo 2 is exactly like this.

Also the Mark V armor is exactly the same as the Mark VI in the back it's two power packs that are at least half-way up the helemt unlike the others armor where is's below the helmet: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/1/18/WasohaClos eupV.jpg

As far as the Spartan on the left and marines on the right, why couldn't it be another type of Halo game one your not use to like Battlefield style with different classes? You can put the picture down without explanation...

and how!

Spartans came in all different sizes and builds. Kelly was only about 5 feet tall, while Sam was nearly 8.

Fact 2: European guys are hotter

I guess I can understand if you don't want to make out with guys in the US if they're so ugly, you should just say so though.

I've never heard of a squad with a super soldier, a couple average soldiers, and two more highly trained soldiers.

That's the thing it's not a squad, it's a interpretation of all the people who participated during the Battle of Reach: Spartans, Marines, ODSTs, Pilots, etc.

Left to right

James ( one arm), Kelly (shortest and fastest spartan), Master Cheif (center of attention as always and their leader), Fred (combat knife in hand), Linda (the spartan's best marksmen, wielding a sniper rifle)

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

I believe they are all Spartans. Why? Well cause Id want a game where you play with a team of Spartans, not a couple of ODSTs -Ive already done that- and I believe that Bungie shares that view.

EDIT: but who knows, Ive always thought that it looks like the sniper doesnt have a helmet with a VISR.

did you even notice their legs sam the biggest one wears them so the other so called marines cant wear them, the last one maybe wear a thruster pack? or a regular one. the other spartan may have a different kind of MJOLNIR , possible but bungie controls the story line

What do you mean Halo 3 era things?Halo 2 and Halo 3 only have weeks between them how different are things supposed to look, the Mark V and the Mark VI don't look the same in the back at all, they might power the suit the same but the Mark V is a lot bulkier looking(See Here?) It couldn't be that because, we've have 4 Halo games in which the core game play was about map control, Bungie can't change this for a couple of reasons that should be obvious.

Just because their holding different guns doesn't mean its class based, thats just a random assumption.

Why does Bungie always have to follow timelines and books, can't they make changes and decisions for the good of the game, sure it's a prequel, but it doesn't mean they can't keep changes they made since Halo CE. Let Bungie make Reach what they want to make it.

Explain the difference between the jump from Halo 2 to Halo 3. You were in that city in Halo 2 using Halo 2 models, you witness the very same slipspace rupture as you do in ODST, but somehow everything becomes Halo 3-like in ODST?

No the suits aren't the same but they still both have the powerpack halfway up the helmet, only one of the silhouettes has that, the others have shoulders shorter or smoother. All MJOLNIR suits including all variants have that powerpack and it's the same height.

As for different weapons, that does not prove that it's class based, but it would make more sense if viewed by both the weapons and different shapes of each character.

  • 07.25.2009 4:01 PM PDT

Signatures are for squares.

You know why you're wrong? You left out Mark IV armor, which is the most used variant of the armor. It had multiple versions, and could be heavily modified. (Look at HaloWars, description in books, and the cover of Cole Protocol)
