Subject: Does anyone know EXACTLY how large the free-roamable area is?

It's all in good fun!

Cool. Also, another question: does it incorporate an intensifying style of combat while in the city? Sort of like in Grand Theft Auto: as you make more noise and kill more people, you attract more serious attention and bring in SWAT teams rather than normal cops. It'd be interesting to go from a few dead grunts to pursuing phantoms. I'm pretty sure they haven't said anything like that, but I thought it might be worth asking.

At LEAST a 1km diameter circle.

For reference, The diameter of Avalanche is around 300-350 meters.

In a interview with ign bungie said that the flashback they wanted to see was 1 km from them and there is still much more

i bet it may be about Eight square miles

Go Go Happy Time!

You could see a map of New Mombasa in the gameplay JS was playing.

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

20.6325 km squared.

No one knows, I guess Bungie will find whatever size is the most fun.

Sure.

Watch the start of this video, it gives you a good idea of how large the city is.

Bungie.net is the place to be!

Amidst the snowfall, the cold does little to diminish his wishes to be free. The eagle is chained and has no way of breaking free. No matter how much he flies, he still is chained. The blizzards do nothing to break his determination and in his eyes, he will be freed, someday...

Bad habits are like chains that are too light to feel until they are too heavy to carry

Based off the information you provided, the part of New Mombasa we get to play in is at least ten times the size of Avalanche. However, that does not seem that large so I am assuming one of those is incorrect.

/thread?
How can you say for sure?

As big as New Mombasa is.

/thread
Not funny.
Well, don't be a retard, OP. No one knows exact proportions, although it's probably safe to say IT'S THE SAME SIZE AS NEW MOMBASA. Look NM up on Halopedia, last time I checked it listed roughly how big it was.
New mombasa doesnt exist, its called old mombasa which is the original, at our point of time now its called mombasa, so you cant get any measurements.

Kind of big.

Vancouver BC, Canada.

I can't imagine it being as big as Oblivion, but you never know.

Go Rams and Missouri!

I looked at it. If you've played GTA IV, then I'd say it's about the size of Alderney + Bohan, which is pretty damn big.
