Halo added a lot to that gameplay system, this changes almost nothing from battlefield. Horrible argument. Come up with some unique classes instead of the generic ones.
Ummmm.
A class based Halo REACH, if it keeps the same Halo formula of gameplay (shields, melees, controls, weapons, etc.) would add just as much to this new gameplay system (Battlefront/Battlefield/Team Fortress) as it did to the old one (Quake/Doom/etc.).

I based my classes off of the "generic" ones from the Halo novels. Support (Sam), Recon (Kelly), Soldier (John), Engineer (Will), Sniper (Linda).

Most class based games already have most of the elements that Halo added to the Quake style of gameplay so a class based Halo wouldn't be anything special.

Who cares about the books. A generic class system would make for a bad game. The classes would have to be unique to make it worth playing. Besides weren't the differences between the Spartans minuscule. Overall they were very similar.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

Quite an interesting idea you have here, but in my opinion, I don't think any changes need to be made to Halo's gameplay. I already think that it's excellent, and that you don't need any classes or squads or large battlefields.

Anyways, there are other squad based games out there, also I know of one, MAG I think it's called, so I really just want Halo to be kept the way it is already.

If they made a Halo games with bigger battles I would love it. I cant get enough of big team (although the lag puts me down). If they changed the way games were hosted and made like 32 player battles there would be some BA moments. On CTF I could envision a Pelican with a Spartan in it who had the flag flying away only to get hit by a blast from a Wraith and fall to the ground.

Also what if there were not classes? What if weapons were pre-generated on the map differently everytime? Like one time a bunker has a sniper and a few br's and another it has only some assault rifles and some lotus mines? However weapon respawn and technicalities like that would have to be closely monitored.

I really hate how people want to keep Halo the way it is now. You guys really want Halo 3.5?

no, i want HALO to go back to the old HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED ways, they involved your head more than your guns, which is what Bungie does in its games*.

*this includes MARATHON, HALO:CE, and other classics.

They are happy in their bubbles, the refuse, and reject change... Sad but true...

I am going along with the OP, on Larger Battles, and more vaariety in weapons, and vehicles. But, I do have to go against the class basis, maybe make it like Call of Duty, or better yet... Combat Arms.

I am an avid reader and I couldn't stand reading all that. As soon as I realised you were inferring a class-based game I refused to play anymore.

It is the lack of classes that makes Halo what it is.
This would be a different type of Halo game. Like Halo Wars.

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

I've played some battlefield:1943 since my last post, and I have to say, that this is EXTREMELY different from 1943. Your analogy about halo being identical to quake is very apt. I now have no more complaints, except that all the gameplay would focus on the call-in locations, and it wouldn't work very well. A different implementation of call-ins would be great however, and I'm sure that Bungie could figure something out that would be perfect.

i agree with most of ur ideas but we need to be something other than spartans and elites like maybe odsts brutes i dont know we just need to be able to be some more of the covenant species like drones for scouts jackles for snipers ill probably be flamed for this but oh well im just saying something more than spartans and elites. also more bigger maps like hugeass from halo CE

Peasonally i only like a couple ideas i youre post. Yes i read all of it. I like the idea where you can call for help similer to COD perk systm i think calling in a pair ifhunter as my bdy guardswould be pretty cool.

I also think you empasized a bit to much a Halo Wars. I like Halo Wars t but i dont think We need almost every Vehicle in there.

NPC controlled Scarab and Vulture ????? Ehhhhh thats a bit iffy ut im leaning to a bit of a no on that one.

Also i see a bit of a Hole in the class system. If we unlock or get the classes from the beginning wouldnt everyone just use Spartans and the Covenant equal to them ?

im also against this specialty weapon system. Like the Bio-foam thing. Pearsonally i dont like that.

12-16 Players per team ? If bungie can create strong servers and the 360 can do it hell ill enjoy that.

Bigger maps ? well for some of the stuff youre saying maybe maps atleast the size of Silent cartographer level.

Cant remember what class this was but all melee attacks have a lunge ? Sorry i completly disagree with that.

Well thats just me. Theres more i want to say but i cant remember youre whole post.

About the vehicle weak points: I don't know if I like the idea of them being a one-hit kill (like the h2 ghost gas tank).
Sure, hitting them in their weak spots should kill in a few less hits, but I think mostly the weak spots should be for crippling the vehicle. For example, hit a banshee on the left wing engine, and it will drift slightly to the left. If you were to try to boost, you would just go around in circles.
Another example: hit the left hornet propeller, and the hornet suddenly tilts at an extremely sharp angle. Maneuverability is now severely reduced, and of course there is a hard left drift, especially when going fast.

What do you mean...?Cant remember what class this was but all melee attacks have a lunge ? Sorry i completly disagree with that.I don't know if you understand what I meant... I was proposing that the Halo 1 melee system return (no lunge), but the CQB specialist would have a lunge on his melees to make him more effective at CQB (you don't really have to aim with a melee lunge in the game; check Halo 2, 3 and ODST).

The problem is this is a consle, not a computer. I am a HUGE fan of battlefield 2142's TITAN mode because of its stategic feel. If Bungie could pull somthing like that off then Im all on your idea.

Edit: Take a look at my post "which class?" tell me what you think.

LOL everyone said the same before halo 3 came out saying you really want a halo 2.5. And in my opinion that would have been better.

Good post OP but I personally would not want a class based multiplayer. Halo has always had people start off even and then their skill allows them to gain momentum in the game to pick up better weapons. I like battlefield but i honestly hate situation where Im saying if only i had that class...

I personally like having control of the situation with two different weapons that can be completely different in range and damage.

All the classes are available to everybody, right from the beginning. There is no unlock/leveling system.

But once you spawn you cant switch classes till you die. I know you dont have to unlock. But im saying I hate having a sniper class and then out of nowhere someone with an smg comes up near me and kills me. Where as in Halo 3 I switch to my Ar or Br and kill him.

This is were teamwork and communication would come in handy. The main aspect of a squad-based system is that you watch each others back. Oh, I just thought of something: Bungie should try to match up players who have mics together.

  • 09.24.2009 6:37 PM PDT

Cheehwawa, I agree with most of what you are saying. But I don't think that classes should be preset, nor do I think that they should have special traits. Mostly because it would be very easy to have one class that is overpowered. I think that at the most, the weapon you have affects your speed or something alon those lines.
