Wow. That was big. But it's not going to happen. I love these sorts of strategy type games, but this is far more likely to become Halo Wars 2 than Halo: Reach. I Admit this idea would be amazing to play, even better than Halo Wars, an FPS RTS world first! I am getting a bit bored of just charging the enemy all guns blazing with no hint of strategy at all, but it's not going to happen with Bungie. You have a better chance approaching Ensemble Studios with this idea. If people want an amazing shooter with perks and classes, they buy Call of Duty. If people want Blood, Gore, and lots of it, they buy Gears of War. People play Halo for the fact that its Halo. It would be cool if you could merge all your favorite games together, but all you want is a copy of Battlefield with Halo stuck on it. We can all dream, but our dreams won't always come true.

Cheehwahwah you know you can't post this kind of thing here. You're just drawing in the Halo fanboys so they can flame you. ;) As we've discussed on LIVE this idea is amazing. I read a little chunk of your post, so I'll start reading the whole thing now. As long as there aren't any NPCs i don't really have to much else to say.

Woah, you put some real effort into making this thread. I would love to see large scale gameplay in Reach. The only halo game that features such gameplay is Halo Custom Edition, and it's only for pc, and is not nearly as good as Halo 3.

Great thread as usual, Cheewawa.

This is something I can see happening. But likely not from Bungie.

I could see a third party developer taking the reigns on this one, with Bungie as a close guide and oversight (kinda like Halo Wars). Maybe even the guys who made Battlefield (why the heck not, right!?)

I don't know, something about the generic soldiers of Battlefield may be part of what makes that game unique (it really does seem like a war). Conversely, the unique identities of Spartans/UNSC troops would make it seem inappropriate to have battle on this scale.

This is more a comment on the type of map that would have to be used. The maps in the Halo games have a very unreal, sandbox type of feel to them, and it helps me overlook the fact that there are a handful of Spartan units all clashing together just to die and respawn.

However, a big part of Battlefield is that it focuses on intercontinental struggles. So, unless the game was set up to be Covenant vs. UNSC, then I do not think this would have a Halo or Battlefield feel to it, rather, something in between. And even then, there are issues of lopsidedness and redundancy.

I'm sure people said the same about a Halo RTS, but Halo Wars did fine. Not as well as the others because not many people like RTS's, but tons of people love large scale combat. A Halo game made like this could possibly outsell Halo 3, especially if its made by Bungie and not some other studio.

Wow, this is truly incredible. I just have to wonder, not having read through the thread word for word, how much thought you gave to balance. It does seem like certain classes would be too powerful or weak. I'm absolutely sure Bungie could make this work though, especially since they've been working on it for so long.

In my idea there are balanced, preset classes, which would be minorly customizable:

Support can have a close-medium range weapon (assault rifle, heavy machinegun) and an anti-armor weapon (grenade launcher, rocket launcher, spartan laser), and he spawns with an HMG and Laser default, but could change his default presets in some menu (like how you can change your preferred COG in GoW) to where you spawn with an AR and a RL, or some other combination of weapons from the class's weapon sets.

There would also be a custom class; the player would now be a average height Spartan wearing the standard Mk V armor from Halo 1, and they can assign the 30 attribute points as they want between the 10 different attributes. They would also assign two weapon sets and choose which are default to spawn with.

Also the Heavy Machinegun is my name for the thing that the large Spartan in the banner is holding; it would be similar to the M60 or SAW, great for supression.

PS. not every feature is a good feature. And just because there is more crap, does not mean that the game is better. When you play Gameplay pick and chooser, you end up with a crappy game like Killzone 2. IE, Cover System + Aiming Mechanics + Squad Based multiplayer + Character Classes + Customization + Level up Unlocks.

Actually, you should just go play Killzone 2. It sounds like it is your perfect game.

I'm not saying change this game into BF 1943, if you read the whole thread and played BF, you'd know that the only things I carried into my idea were the large-scale maps (which are definitely not exclusive to BF), and the squad system (which I suggested imrpovements for) as well as classes (there are only 3 in BF, and they are not very indepth).

The way that Halo feels (the controls, the dedicated melee button, dedicated grenade button, two weapon max., shields, etc.) would remain intact. This is not a mere skin for BF. It would be Halo as we know it on a larger scale, and with 5 classes based on the 5 Spartan physiques in the banner.

What are the Bad Company classes? I believe that the BF 1943 classes are just the classes from the other BF games mashed into 3 since its an Arcade game. But I don't see how its much like BF 1943 at all... the squad system, sure, but I tweaked it, and other than that, none of the stuff I mentioned is unique to BF 1943.

Okay. Here we go. I personally thought this idea was amazing. The way I see it, Halo: Reach is supposed to be a tactical shooter, with virtually only a handful of Spartans facing an entire Covenant armada? This would have to be a tactical shooter. Cheewawa has a great idea. The class system would be totally appropriate for a tactical shooter. And again, If you read the books, you would understand that the Spartans were NOT Run 'N Gun fanatics like Halo today, they were a SQUAD. Something that I have never seen in any Halo match I've have ever played, and quite frankly, its sad. What is being suggested is a great idea, and would create a totally new style of gameplay for a totally new game. AND...its definitely do-able. Has anyone on these forums ever played Operation: Flashpoint? Hmm? No? Okay. Let me tell you what it is. ALL squad based gameplay on over 2 Square Kilometers of open map, and every last inch is explorable. And that was for the ORIGINAL XBOX. I'm positive that the 360 can hold up, with no lag, what is being suggested. Especially seeing as how Codemasters is doing it again with OFP2. The class system could be easily fixed if too many people are being one class. Give each class a weakness that can be exploited. OR, if that doesn't work, put a limit on how many people can be one class. Easily done. C'mon guys. I know Halo is fun, but it gets old after a bit doing the same thing. This is virtually a new beginning for Bungie to experiment with Halo. Let them do it.
