Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I removed the melee weapon part. I think it just complicated everything.

I added it in because I saw one of the people in the banner has a combat knife. I still kept that Class (Engineer) equipped with a combat knife... sort of. He can hold the B button down before meleeing for an instant kill melee aided by the combat knife.

The massive Support unit has the same one hit kill ability but doesn't need the knife to do so... just his fist.

I like the idea of having massive battles. I've always wanted to see that in one of the Halo games. However, I'm not sure if I'd use classes. There could be a squad structure, but I believe every player should be equal, yet slightly customizable.

poisondrake5 i was reading this fourm again to see if I made any mastakes in my big gigantec paragraph on page six. and I just happened to read all the way down to your post. and thats a great idea like if you get a killionare or an untouchable you could call in a hunter. but not the hunters from halo 3 but the hunters from halo1 (where you could shoot them in the head with a magnum alot and they would die.) except with an assult beam.

Voilà!In view,a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity,is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

This would work and I hope Bungie will consider this if they decide to make Rech class based

  • 08.04.2009 7:59 AM PDT

WOW. That was a lot of thought. It was interesting, though not my style. Make it and I'd probably give it a try.

WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK REACH WILL CLASS BASED?

Seriously? I have not seen one ounce of proof that Reach will be a class based game! If I missed something like a Bungie employee mentioning it or something please redirect me. If there is absolutely no proof of what the gameplay will be like AT ALL then why are we making threads like this?

Look at the Spartans in the banner. They all have different sizes and weapons which reflect those sizes in the classical Class sense. That's why.

EDIT: I make this thread for the same reason people make threads about the BR in Reach.

THAT IS NOT PROOF! THAT IS A BANNER!

That just means that in the singleplayer campaign you will fight alongside other spartans with different specialties against the covenant. That banner does not represent anything! Hell, it might not even represent campaign! There is absolutely no solid proof that Reach will be class based.

It's all in good fun!

One word: yes.

Unfortunately, I think class-based warfare would destroy Halo. As for the new vehicle, call-in, and massive battle ideas, I definitely like those, but they the call-ins may be a little too CoD4 for me. I think the only call ins should be vehicle based, not MAC Blast or Cleansing Flames, or anything like that. And having them player controlled would not only be fun for the players, but allows for more balanced gameplay. Since he's not a super smart AI that automatically tracks every player, he can be taken down, allowing for balanced gameplay, just so that the NPC doesn't go on a permanent killing spree. Unless, like the CoD helicopter, they all have timers.

Classes and Halo do not mix. It wouldn't feel like Halo if every time, I started with a Spartan Lazer and LMG. And all these special abilities and things like that over complicate it. That's why I liked Halo MM, it was simple, yet very sophisticated.

Anyway, I think large scale Halo battles are a great idea. I made a thread like this a while back on the same topic:

Your logic is massively flawed. Halo 3 had a beta and it wasn't class based. Halo 2 had a beta and it wasn't class based.

i like the gameplay elements. exept there's be to many weapons on your list, do like the 45 round halo 1 upgrade AR though/
o and btw, OP don't you hate it when people deny things because it "isn't halo-like" or they dont want "call of halo, or Gears of halo" etc?

I don't want it to be class based, but I do want it to be large scale. I don't know how it would work, but Bungie would find a way. Classes just don't make Halo, Halo. However I don't want the exact same thing as Halo 3, with more weapons and vehicle. Lets be honest, Halo might be fun, but it has been the exact same game since Halo CE came out. I want Bungie to do something innovative with Halo Reach.

I'm not saying that the game won't be class based, I'm saying that assuming anything about the gameplay at this time, without any proof at all, is quite absurd considering that the only look at this game we've gotten was literally FROM SPACE.

One does not simply walk into Halo.

I'd honestly think that it would be a very interesting idea to work with, giving many possibilities for people to work together, complete the objective, etc.

Since noone is replying to my thread on the solution to the imbalance of classes here's my idea:

The solution to the imbalance in start weapons, I think, would be to have different classes use different character models.

Also, I'm assuming that Spartans will not have shields in Reach but will instead have biofoam administers that will regenerate their health.

Sniper:
Marine/Jackal
Human strength melee (Relatively weak)
Human jump height (Normal)
No shields
Normal health
Spawns with Sniper weaponset

Recon:
ODST/Unshielded SpecOps Elite
Increased speed
No shields
Human jump height/Elite jump height
Normal Health
Recon weaponset

Soldier:
Spartan/Elite
Regenerating health with administered Biofoam/Regenerating Shields for elites
Spartan Jump Height/ Elite jump height
Spartan Melee strength
Increased speed
Spawns with Soldier weaponset

Support:
Heavy Spartan (As seen in banner)/ Brute
High health
Lowered speed
Very high melee strength
Spawns with Support weaponset

Engineers:
Marine/Grunt
Human speed
Average health
Human melee strength
Human jump height
Engineer weaponset

If the engineer class becomes impractical for repairing vehicles, the covenant could have Engineers (as NPCs) at their bases that will fix your vehicle in a certain area, and the UNCS may have NPC engineers that will do a similar job.

Bungie knows that everything they do is going to really carefully analysed by us. The banner was clearly designed to show slightly different Spartans (assuming they are Spartans), which indicates classes.

I personally am not a fan of classes at all. But if anyone can convince me otherwise its Bungie.

I think that it would make much more sense for everyone to be Spartans. I based my classes off of the 5 sillhouettes from above, and they all look like Spartans to me. Just give them different shield strenghts and stuff. Like how you can already make a basic 2-Class game in Halo 3's Infection mode.
