I think that assumption is based on whether you just run through every mission on normal/heroic.

New Mombassa is an open world at our feet ready to be explored.
I know for a fact I will be looking in every corner for every last bit of fun I can get out of the campaign.

Samesies.

I might try this on Legendary too. Heroic was difficult in Halo 3 (first time around, second time aroundd when I had to start a new game [connecting to LIVE/losing my gamerscore] it seemed easier). SO def going to challenge myself.

Staff Sergeant future 510, serial number HHT3-09PL, Flood Military Reserve.

I guess it makes sense, if ODST doesn't overlap with Halo 3, then it would have to end before the Chief gets back.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

1st off, when someone talks about how long a campaign will take to finish, they're referring to the time it takes to just do missions and to do them as quickly as possible.

2nd, ODST is open world. What that means is it'll take different people, different times to finish.

And last, but not least, they mentioned extra things to find throughout campaign. Anyone who truly enjoys campaign will want to find those things. If they are what we've seen they might be (vague, I know, but I have to be) then it will extend the length of the campaign by quite a bit. Especially if they're a bit difficult to find.

Really? An expansion being short than the original game? Unheard of!

So do you guys just wanna buy games based on how long the game takes to complete?

Why don't you go buy some RPG it takes like 100 hours to beat some of them, fun fun, fun.

Games should not be bought on how long they take to complete, but on how much fun you have. Besides theres a lot of replay ability in the co-op and firefight modes. Not to mention the extra three maps and reach beta.

That's exactly what I will be doing as well.

there is no replay value in firefight, youll do the same waves over and over and over

Besides I dont have any problem buying this game and im sure open world would make this game last a lot longer

Those waves getting increasingly harder, not to mention they're random so that it will change each time you play. Sounds like replay value to me.

Just like theres no replay value in Horde despite still being the most used feature in GoW2? Hmmmmmm....

Plus, with every round having random enemies (like suicidal grunts or Hunters) and skulls that change it up, there will be PLENTY of replay value.

People who report others on the bungie forums are so cool!

RLY? I couldn't figure out that a campaign expansion is shorter than the game it is expanding upon. Thanks OP!

bameins right your idiot bungie said the waves are completly random, thats why they said when they first tested firefight they said they got owned by hunters in the first wave.

  • 07.25.2009 12:16 PM PDT

ok my bad on firefight mode, but still imho short campaigns really suck but since odst is open world that wont be a factor.

Sending me a group invite or some kind of other pointless, time wasting advert gets you blocked. Don't bother wasting your time. kthnxbai

It's worth mentioning that it depends on how long you spend in the city once you complete a Flashback mission. You could just keep going back constantly to check out an area that you might have missed the first time, etc. I think that the hub world will add to the replay value of the game.

I mean think about it. In the IGN Preview with Joe Staten it took about 20 minutes to get to the first flashback mission, and even then, he skipped ahead to save time.

Well there's eight missions In ODST's campaign, Halo 3 had nine...so one mission less but adding Free-roam I think it's fair to say ODST will take much longer if you want it to.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

You don't have to be such a J-A. They have just recently confirmed ODST to be shorter than Halo 3.

Beyond that, both Bungie and Microsoft have stated they no longer consider Halo 3: ODST an expansion. Because the scope of the game had grown. When they came out and said that, I was hoping the game would be longer than initially expected.

Ofcourse any reasonable person can see, it is still an expansion. Even before this revelation. But with how hard the PR team tryed to push the idea it was more than expansion, I anyways had hope it would be a longer game. Especially considering firefight lacks MM, and ODST lacks a unique multiplayer mode.

At the end of the day, no one is ever modest when they are doing PR. Which is why the expected play times of previous Halo games, have always been overstated. If Joseph Staten says, Halo 3: ODST is, 'probably" shorter than Halo 3. That means its shorter than Halo 3. If he would of said, "Its probably a little longer than Halo 3", that would of meant its shorter than Halo 3, seven times out of ten. If they said, "Its substantially longer than Halo 3", that means its 10 mintues longer 80% of the time.

Look, the game has been tested start to finish, to death by now. Bungie has been playing it start to finish for the better part of half a year. And they have been playing it in its finished state, for probably a few months. They know how long the game takes on average to beat. And if he says its probably shorter than Halo 3, the overwelming majority of people will have a shorter play time than Halo 3. So much so he would feel like a crook, if he dodged the question completely, and didn't indicate the game was shorter. He clearly didn't even want to state an expected play time. Because even if he told us how long the slowest 5% took to play the game, it would look better for the game, to leave it to the imagination. Even if your imagination is constructed with the knowledge, that it is shorter than Halo 3.

Bungie said it was 4-5 hours long wayyyy back. Like last year or beginning of this year.

And yeah, we can hope.
