No, it just wouldnt be Halo anymore

I agree it just wouldn't be the same, everything should be left just as it is.

"why fix something that isn't broken?"

So, you want a Halo 3.5?

So you basically want to change the entire weapon sandbox in halo?

Nope

I'm sorry but "self balanced" weapons would ruin halo. When you get a power weapon, you should have an advantage. Fighting for weapons also increases the pace of the game and makes undesirable areas worth going to. There's much more strategy involved when you have to time power weapons and fight for the best position on the map, where as in games like COD its all about getting to the best position and there's no need to move about the map.
Halo is a medium paced shooter. CoD is a fast paced shooter.

The only thing now is that instead of weapon control, you need to focus on map control, getting the position, and holding it!

Oh and you obviously don't know much about map making. A sniper position with one way in is far easier to defend than a position that allows for multi point invasions.

You obviously haven't played CoD4, because otherwise you would know what I am talking about. Therefore, your statement about CoD4 is null and void.

The sniper position in question is on the second floor of a damaged building. There are two holes in the wall that a sniper can look through, however, one is worthless because of the fact that it is facing a building, and you cannot really see the street/pathway below it.

They only way out/in is not easy to defend. If all I have is a sniper and a pistol, someone can shoot a rocket into the hole in the way and kill me. They can also frag me out, and if I try to go out the door, boom, I get hit by assault rifles.

Please, try to understand what I am typing.

i want bungie to make new stuff but not go all classes, new armour, different type of elite like jackals etc, but dont make one significantly better than the other. everyone relates CoD 4 with a noob gun = m16 or grenade launcher, CoD 5 = mp40 + juggernaut, if this was incorporated into Reach i would physically break down and want to suicide

  • 08.06.2009 3:07 PM PDT

The grenade launcher should actually be called the skill tube. The hand grenades have literally twice the lethality of the grenade launcher. Even with sonic boom, the grenade launcher doesn't have the same blast radius as the hand grenade.

The M16 just goes towards proving my point that burst weapons don't work in video games.

The MP40 and juggernaught is a mistake, it was not meant to be part of the game.

I didn't put alot of thought into this and Im not suggesting Bungie put this into Reach it's just a quick example. You would choose your character the same way you choose them in Halo 3 along with your starting weapons and equipment. You can only change your character, starting weapons and equipment at the starting menu. In custom games you can change the traits for each character or even just turn character traits off.

  • 08.06.2009 11:36 PM PDT

I think that everything should remain the same, but you can just create 5 custom classes that include a primary weapon and a side arm.

But very nice nonetheless.

Signatures are for squares.

This idea sounds exactly like CoD, and Bungie isn't one to plagiarize ideas.

Realy?, I don't think so. COD has alot more customization so it's not even a real class system. Games like TF2 have a class system because you choose a character that has definate traits. This system would be similar, but have a little more customization though even then it's not like you can change characters every time you die.

I discussed this in like, the 9001 Class threads there has been.

Reach is a mainstream game, like Halo CE, 2 and 3. It isn't a spinoff like ODST or Halo: Wars were this would be possible. This might as well be considered Halo: 0. If it wasn't a direct prequel, it would probably be called Halo4. Asking for classes in Reach is like asking for Classes in Halo 3, they would have to completely re-design the entire way the game is played. Modify all the weapons, remakes wouldn't work well, and a new matchmaking system.

I just don't see it happening.

Halo is based in a sci-fi universe.

COD is like real life.

Halo isn't real life .

COD isn't based in a sci-fi universe.

COD has a class system and most likely always will.

Halo doesn't have a class system and hopefully never will.

Cross one of those lines, and no good will come of it.

Oh...I see what you mean now, but I have to disagree with the above post. You seem to be saying we should never have classes in Halo.

Oh no. it's possible for a spinoff game such as HaloWars or ODST, just not a mainstream game.

Halo is based in a sci-fi universe.

So?

COD is like real life.
So?

Halo isn't real life.
It might be one day...

COD isn't based in a sci-fi universe.
It kind of is when you consider how they fictionalize enemies and scenarios

COD has a class system and most likely always will.
So?

Halo doesn't have a class system and hopefully never will.
Why not, Fan boy.

Cross one of those lines, and no good will come of it.

How do you know? Can you see into the future?

And recon makes everyone right doesnt it. [/sarcasm]

In real life do we have classes, no.
I have family who have fought out in Iraq and Afganistan.
Do they have a class, no.
Do they pick perks, no.
Do they respawn after they die, no.
They just get their heads down and fight, and thank god for them they made it out.
Dude, maybe you should see what REAL life is actually like.

You can't compare real war to a videogame dude. I've got family fighting in Iraq too.

Exactly.
Recon guy is pissing me off.
He thinks he is right.
I bet he has never smelt cordite, let alone have a man bleed to death in his arms.
My brother has seen all of that, he lost one of his best friends.
I don't think its a good idea saying CoD is anything like real life.

A class system would change the Halo Genre dramatically. I would not support it under the current style of Halo play. However we know nothing about Reach's true gameplay and having a set class could make sense. In the books the team john works with is clearly have specialties, the female spartan of his team is a sprinter who scouts and snipes. if we were to be participating in the training games that the Spartans play during the books itd make sense to have different classes be mandatory for a team. Someone who was faster, tougher, better with combat or with explosives, and someone who was the general jack of all trades as the leader. This kind of class play would make sense to me. If you look at the armor descriptions in halo 3 it seems as if we already have classes, or special units with special tasks who are naturally inclined to do them. If your team were all of the class E.O.D youd be better with explosives, If you were E.V.A however you might disarm bombs but your team wouldn't handle it as well.
I think that most people agree having a class system will not stop camping. Camping is holding a strategic position. if you can penetrate it then leave it alone. however i can just imagine how every match would turn into a sniper match if you chose your starting weapons. it would make the game far more unbalanced than a game which uses an equal starting point with an equal opportunity to gather power weapons. High ground is an example of this. The team that starts in the base has access to the laser and the active camp. the team at the beach gets snipes and overshields. In the middle is rockets. The person with laser and sniper are meant to defend their team to claim the upper hand with power weapons. this is the kind of game play style i like and having 16 people all spawn with snipers in a non snipers match would destroy it. i hope that if classes are indeed implemented that it is a radical new play style devoted not to the same we see featured in halo's 1-3. I'm very excited to test the beta come spetember!

  • 08.07.2009 4:22 PM PDT

I am glad you do not fumble around like other people saying that classes in Halo would be bad, just because they are classes.

But if there were default classes, what would stop people from spawning with the sniper class?

And custom classes could work, especially if the weapons are balanced out properly, along with the maps.

Overall, I agree with you post. (besides the part about default classes, and everyone spawning with snipers)
