I would hate classes in halo. The point of halo is to be able to control the map, not spawn with rockets/sniper everytime you spawn.
It could easily be balanced out. For example, the person who can spawn with a sniper is very weak and takes lots of fall damage (better watch out if you're sniping from up high), and the rocket guy may be very slow with only a pair of shots.

What Cheehwawa said. As long as I'm not being forced to wear any specific armor, a class system would be my favorite addition to the halo universe. Many MANY times there has been holes in the wall for losing a weapon. If the game is slightly larger in scale as cheehwawa said, this could be ideal. Tailor the game to your style of play.

maybe classes that are available like have 1 sniper class, so if someone choose that they are it until death, 1 rocket, 2 shotgunners, 5 normal. Stuff like that, although halo would not be the same but for the better or worse that is what we would have to see.

Being slow with rockets would make me camp. Being weak with sniper would also make me camp.

i really hope they dont use classes... one of the reasons why i love halo is because of this. stupid for you to start a game with any weapon you want. hence why CoD has a big problem called camping. stick with keeping the power weapons on the map not starting with what ever you want.

wtf? if you wanna play a game as stupid as call of duty go play it. Halo
isnt stupid enough to add classes you begin with. i mean just look at the way
all those other shooters like cod turned out and look at how halo is. if we
become that, we'll only be going a step down.

If i die i forgive you, if i live...we will see.

NO!! It's -blam!- to have classes, especially customizeable ones because then it would just be too rigged. If it were like CoD4 where you can have 4-5 custom slots for classes where you choose what you want, theres just no way halo would be fun anymore. Like say for instance if they had this for halo 3 right now, if you were playing on the pit you could spawn with a custom class with: shotgun, battlerifle (for long ranged opponents), a bubble shield, and 2 frags and stickies. It just wouldnt work with any part of halo i think

It wouldn't work with Halo 1/2/3 style maps, but with larger more realistic maps, it would work, like it does in Battlefront, Battlefield, Crysis, etc. -- you never see camping in those games unless you/your teammates don't go take them out after they die. It's easy to see where you die from, just spawn as a sniper and go after them. If they kill you, they are simply a better sniper.

What happens once people start bombing your position? What happens if you run out of ammo?

Vancouver BC, Canada.

You wouldn't be playing traditional "Halo" if classes were incorporated.

Bombing as in kill streak awards, similar to CoD? In CoD: MW and CoD: WaW, if you're good at the game and can camp successfully, then you've probably racked up a good kill streak and have recieved the better kill streak awards to warrant a death for extra ammo.

Purpose death, I already got several kills. One death won't matter. Rocket class camping guaranteed two kills followed by camping with shotgun until I die. Flawless positive K/D ratio strategy. Thats why I don't play CoD. Objective game, same thing while defending. When on offense use the sniper class and spawn kill while my teammates do the objective. That is why class based online fails. Even with handicaps to the classes I can still camp.

  • 07.25.2009 9:51 PM PDT

Have you played hardcore headquarters on Call of Duty 4?

There is no camping that I see. If you call setting a position and defending it camping then yes, it is camping, but it isn't too bad. It happens in every game and is worse in Halo because you cannot counter act it due to the fact that they have the only power weapons.

If a team is dominating you with vehicles then what can you do? Make a mad dash for the only rocket launcher only to find that some one on the other team already has it. Or can you just spawn with a rocket launcher that has two shots?

If a team is dominating you with the vehicles, then your team failed at map control. I realize that you are using an example, but I can't think of any vehicular based maps in Halo 3 with just one Rocket Launcher (barring Sandtrap and Rat's Nest, but on the former you're using one of the 2 Lasers to destroy the vehicles instead, and the latter-Warthogs do not control the map. If you lose control of the inside, that's a problem). On Avalanche, both teams have a Rocket, and it's fairly easy to get to, even if you lose maps control. Barring Rockets, you can go off the Man Cannon to get the Spartan Laser to help combat against vehicles. Also, a player that's just spawned has 2 new Frag Grenades, perfect for flipping over vehicles. If you pick up Plasmas, they work wonderfully for killing Warthogs. Plus, you've always got the option to hijack.

There's so many different ways to take out vehicles in Halo 3. If you're being destroyed, then you probably lost map control fairly early on and lost all of the power weapon rushes (however, they respawn, so that's key).

If Halo 2/3 were better balanced then the enemy team wouldn't be able to dominate you as much unless you suck so that argument is actually a balance issue and/or your fault. And people always camp in Call of Duty, even Hardcore Headquarters. I have played it. They do it because its convenient.

no classes but if there were you shouldnt be able to spawn with power weapons rockets shotty etc but more like the choice of 3 classes, assualt with an AR or mid range weapon, cqb with an smg, and heavy with light machine gun ( if there is one) but have guns still scattered around the map cuz in halo you have to switch weapons all the time while as in cod you hardly had to cuz you die so fast. thats probably the only way it would work

Please, give me a situation in which you are camping using a custom class. Use any Halo 3 map.

Get Some!!

let me just throw this idea out there to the people who are afraid that this will lead to camping... most halo maps are symmetrical. if you think that the other team will simply go camp, just beat them to the spot. it is just like rushing power weapons now... except requires teamwork to hold down the spot..

I'm The Boss

Unless you really love playing Team Rockets this won't work.

It Could work if they change the way most class based games work, and revolutionize it like they did with FPS games but highly unlikely.

Also Customizable weopans on campain could work.
