No matter how neatly the argument is set out, I'll never approve of classes in Halo. If you don't like the weapon you spawn with, pick up another one.

agree

the main purpose is to have the standard rifle that everybody starts with (that is AR)
the AR is the standard rifle in halo and has always been... most of the marines uses AR.
And this rifle should be good. The CE AR was so nice... I want that back :)

I am the hand of fate!

Great thread, only got a chance to skim through. I'd have this only as a new mode, and have the default Halo multiplayer. I think that's what you were saying, and if it is, I'd put it at the top of the OP in order to clear that concern from the get-go.

i don't like the idea. Too many power weapons on a map would ruin game play. Everyone would have a sniper on big maps, a shotgun on smaller maps, or a laser on vehicle based maps. It would kill weapon variety and make a lot of the weapons in the sandbox useless.

who would even think about getting in a vehicle if the other team can just spawn with a vehicle killer? There's a reason vehicles don't work in games like COD.

It would also change traffic flows. Think about it if everyone on a team can spawn with a shotgun, why leave your base?

I find over balanced gameplay boring. That link just confirms why I don't like class based games.

Why is it boring? It might be balanced, but it doesn't feel like it when you play.

Simply because I do. Thats my opinion and its how I will always think.

And I respect your opinion. I also hope you respect my opinion that classes in Halo should be given a chance.

if it was a class based game then i would ALWAYS spawn with a sniper & a BR,and i would dominate,it would suck.

  • 07.30.2009 10:37 PM PDT

1) No overkill.

2) I am sure the game would be balanced out so the br wasn't an overpowered death machine.

No, it just wouldnt be Halo anymore

What do you mean it wouldnt be halo anymore, Bungies not going to just make another map expansion with this game for the original multiplayer, they want to create a new online experience for players as well as atract new people to the game.

  • 07.30.2009 10:58 PM PDT

Spawning with weapons such as the sniper pose problems on maps such as sandbox variants and standoff where you can basically see the other team the moment you spawn. Weapons like the sniper are meant to be limited which is why there is one or two on a map with limited ammo. Remember Halo 2's Coagulation with sniper ammo. That resulted in the worst spawn camping in all of Halo. Anyways, if Halo ever has classes I can guarantee you that I and a lot of other people will just not play Halo.

How do you know that this is their last Halo game?

Halo: Reach is the last Halo game that will be made by Bungie. Afterwards Bungie is going to make other games. Microsoft however still owns Halo and will probably make more titles through different companies.

TW!
Long time no see!
I was sad to see your Pelican thread get shot down in flames by Xfoman,
Now I shall support you here!

i think if there are classes should there not be varients within the classes to make things even more interesting, such as the fabled BR with an attached Grenade Launcher, and an AR with a reflex sight or whatever?

I do not know.
I shall stay on this thread and not let it sink!

You guys seem to be thinking that Halo: Reach will have the same gameplay, same weapons, and same health system.

Classes WILL NOT WORK with Halo 3 weapons. That is why it is up to Bungie to BALANCE the weapons so someone who spawns with an assault rifle or an SMG will not fall prey to one with a sniper, etc.

I am so sick of repeating this.

And hey Kalriq! Good to see you man.

I think ODST campaign will be more of a preview of what we can expect from reach, with less of an Icanbeatupwhatevercomesmyway attitude, and more of an ODST/older Spartan variant.
Also maps would be made more in a way so in some no weapon could dominate, but then some would be more CQB based or made for long range combat for example. Because of this everyone would be on the same battleground as long as they knew what the map favoured, its like having a custom game variant for that map if you like, you could even have it so that some classes are restricted for certain maps.
Classes could work.

The problem is there is only one Halo. Its unique and that's why many people play it. It could literally kill the series to go class based. I know I for one would probably rent it for the campaign and story. I can never get into Call of Duty or Battlefield, class based games are just to repetitive for me. Spawn, kill, die. Then repeat. In Halo you actually have to fight for your weapons and that adds to the gameplay. Gears of War is one of the most interesting games because its weapon standoffs can last for while and are pretty complex. There really is no strategy in a class based game. You just spawn as the demolition class when you need to take out a vehicle or in CoD you just spawn with your preferred weapon and go around spraying. I don't want to see that happen to Halo.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I don't endorse the class system style of play for a halo game.

What happens once people start bombing your position? What happens if you run out of ammo?

Posted by: Bullet _ Sponge
On second though I would camp with all weapons in a class based game. Its just too convenient.

You die respawn with the same gun again (I.E. Rocket Laucher) and then you start blasting them again till you run out of ammo....over....and over...and over....and halo dies

...the spartans would be younger...sooo what?
