Heres something for you Lunatic__Brandon. What if you could only spawn with the following:

UNSC
-Assault rifle
-Battle rifle
-SMG
-Light machine gun (Hopefully. Effective at medium range only)
-8-gauge shotgun

Covenant
-Plasma rifle
-Spiker
-Needler
-Carbine
-A Covenant light machine gun (Hopefully. Effective at medium range only)
-Plasma shotgun
-Brute shot
-Energy Sword

Side arms
-Magnum
-Plasma Pistol
-Mauler

And grenades, and maybe equipment.

Snipers, and rockets, and any other "power" weapons cannot be spawned with, but are placed on the maps, and players fight for control over them.

Is that better?

Its definitely a huge step up from what most people are asking and it does look semi promising. I can't say its a bad idea but I can't say it would be better than the current gameplay system. I wouldn't be pissed if Bungie did something like that. It could actually be enjoyable for fans of class based online and classic Halo.

Your'e welcome. With the weapons that you can spawn with in this system they really have no effect on map control so it would still play like a Halo game. Although this isn't class based, this is going into the Modern Warfare set up but in a good way because it is retaining much more Halo than anything else.

Technically it is still class based because you can choose your spawn weapon. But at the same time the old Halo style of fighting for advantages is still kept intact.

That is what I want in Halo: Reach.

Really class based is when there is a person that has a specific job. With your idea it is only slight spawning customization. Overall it is still a Halo game. I stick to my opinion that a class based game can't be Halo, this isn't really a class based system. It wouldn't be perfect but it would definitely work in a Halo game.

What if the classes were more like in Battlefield or Team Fortress? I don't consider COD a real class-based game (well, when I think of a class-based game, I don't think of it) because there is nothing really differentiating the classes besides what weapons they have. What if they all had their own unique traits (like how you could change how zombies behave compared to humans in Halo 3, but more subtle).

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

A game where you make Custom classes is NO real Class based game, in a Class based game you play classes SET UP by the games designer. (Games like Hexen, Battlefield, Team Fortress, and Star Wars Battlefront)

These Classes don't even need to be the same on both factions, one team MAY have a few VERY Unique classes on their side (Battlefront's 2 extra classes per faction comes to mind).

O hai

If this was implemented, it completely destroys the concepts of map and weapon and spawn control, and turns the game into a run n gun shooter like COD. What makes Halo unique is that you can play as a lone wolf, but you have to setup and communicate with your team to gain map control, which allows you to take charge of the game. If I spawn with a sniper, why would I have to venture out of my base? I have the power weapon I want off-spawn, and safe, secure cover. Same can be said for an assault rifle wielder.

I think it would work out better if all the starting weapons were toned down alot, that way power weapons and the gameplay would play out more as usual, just you could start out more how YOU wanted.

MCR were amazing last night!

If you fail on your first attempt, try cheating

Classes would suck if they controlled what weapons you got because Halo guns dont have equal pros and cons, some guns are a lot better to have. instead the classes should be for less obvoius parts of games, a officer class could have a AoE boost to something and a marine class could have a slightly shorter respawn while a sniper class had better armor colour for hiding in shadows and bushes...

  • 08.02.2009 4:28 AM PDT

Bungie should make each of the weapons have their equal pros and cons. Even if there are no classes.

No classes are call of duty stuff. If you made classes it would no longer be like halo

This logic is FLAWED.

First off, COD isn't a real class-based game. Something like Team Fortress 2 is a real class-based game (the sort that Inkognito is suggesting).

Second off, if adding classes would make Halo into COD/Battlefield/Battlefront/Whatever, then NOT having classes has already made Halo into Quake and all other FPSes which came before it!

That one is going in the OP. Way to go Cheehwawa!

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

I disagree with the OP. If I want to play a class based multiplayer game, I'll go play Call of Duty. It plays differently from Call of Duty. The way I see it, if people could spawn with sniper rifles, then everyone would be running around trying to no-scope and camp.

To me, what would help the situation is to reduce the gameplay dependency of a weapon such as the BR. For example, the map The Pit has at least 6 BR spawns spread out through it's relatively small area. I think the game would benefit more if those spawns were reduced down to around 2 spawns (1 for each team) and the weapon took on more of a support role, as opposed to the Jack-of-all-trades weapon.

I think this personally because I am a fan of variety. I am tired of BR starts and never liked them to begin with. Spawning with what is considered the best gun in the game completely eliminates the point of picking up anything other than sniper or rockets. I like action sack simply because I get to play something that isn't riddled with what feels like Team BR's on every map.

If you had read the bottom section of the OP, you would have seen how snipers and rockets could not be spawned with.

I agree 100% with what you stated in this block quote.

I am a huge fan of variety too. That is why I kind of support classes. You see, if Bungie gave each weapon, etc. an equal amount of pros and cons, then classes could work because people couldn't spawn with a rocket launcher and own everyone because the weapon was hard to master.

I want Bungie to give each weapon, etc. an equal amount of pros and cons, whether they are in classes or not.

BUT, if the spawning weapons were toned down, sniper camping would simply be like BR camping, or whatever, or shotgun camping would take say four shots or whatever to kill, it would simply be a way of spawing with your style of play, but not destroying the map, thats how I see it, and then the power weapons would still be available, but you would have to fight for them as you do on Halo 3, so the sniper of whatever would still be a huge rush for, but if it wasnt got people would be less fussed, because they could at least have a form of sniper or whatever.

Thats true. But toned down weapons really shouldn't be an option.

so your talking about changing the whole game. If anything else just make a new game lol. You wanna change all the weapons JUST to add all the classes. very stupid...go make a new game then

No, it just wouldnt be Halo anymore

Furthermore, COD doesn't really work anyway. Most people use the Sniper Rifle or the Assault Rifle on larger maps and the SMG/Shotgun on smaller maps because they are the only things that really work. Sure, you can use the others, but they are much harder to use and give you a disadvantage, just like using the Spiker on, say, Sandtrap.

The system we have now is good. Why change it to be more like another game? If you like that game's system more, GO PLAY IT INSTEAD.

  • 08.02.2009 2:50 PM PDT

Go Pro Or Go Prone

why classes??, it would ruin the game.
if classes why dont they change the name to cod reach?
