Well since this is way before Combat Evolved, and since there wasn't a lot of weapons in CE I hope Bungie downgrades it and also get rid of the Brutes since from my knowledge they weren't in the first game.

What do you think?

I hope Reach plays like Halo 1 just simply because the gameplay in Halo 1 was the best of all the games. Every weapon, with the exception of the Needler, was powerful, even the plasma pistol. The pistol balanced out the power weapons by giving players who just spawned a way to defend themselves. Weapons were unique, and had advantages of their own, like the stun effect of the plasma rifle/pistol. Power weapons were not just guaranteed kills, they took some effort to use. The melee system was the best because you had to aim your melees and they weren't as powerful as in Halo 3, meaning they weren't tools of destruction. The preceding post was for the multiplayer.

Now onto the campaign. Levels were actually massive, and while still being linear, it had a non-linear feel. Elites in Halo 1 were way more fun to fight than Elites in Halo 2, and Brutes in Halo 3. They were brutal, especially on Legendary. The Flood gameplay was executed better in Halo 1, because they were powerful and could take some serious punishment.
