. . .
We owe Bungie: $50+ for their game.
Bungie owes us: a quality game.
They don't owe us screenshots but on the same level there's nothing wrong with wanting more if asked respectfully.
And for all you people who think they just post screenshots and videos and go to stuff like E3 for us have you ever heard of this thing called business? It's called promoting. Hard concept I know. They are promoting their product. Nothing more, nothing less. And, further more, in today's world of media and internet any pressi s good press almost. Because it briings more attention to your product, hence more curiosity, hence more people buy the game. Never forget. This is all business to them. . . . .
You are very correct. Bungie is a company and as a company it is very concerned with making a quality product that gets as many people as possible to buy it. All we owe them is the $50, and maybe even a sincere "thank you for the extra mile" for both putting in that extra 10% and paying us more attention than any other company I can think of.
But those of us who have been in the community pre-M$ buyout realize that there is something deeper to bungie. its not just a company, its something more. Its like that guy next door. The cool guy, who's always cooking up new stuff to show off, who's great to hang out with, and who always has a smile and a good pair of shades on.
But they're a business. And not the type of business that "any press is good press." This isn't hollywood. This is a "do the fans buy the game or not." They have to be very careful with new screens or other information.
What if the jackals didn't line up in formation, like the did in the e3 video? What if boarding was taken out because it made for poor gameplay? What if the marines didn't drive vehicles like they did in e3 because it wasn't possible to code anything besides poor "waypoint driving?" What if destructable environments were taken out because of framerate and memory issues over xbox live?
I'm sure they had to be very certain that what they have shown us is as close to the final product as possible. Because if it wasn't, there could be hell to pay. Bad press is not good press in gaming. it means ppl don't buy your game. And the fewer who buy your game, the less people there are to brag about how awesome it is to others. Its a thin line - pleasing fans and enraging fans. In fact, its not a line, its a blur. And no matter where you try to draw it, you'll always do a little of both.
