Subject: So Firefight... how are you going to kill them baddies?

So moving aside from all the 'Who are you going to be in firefight' questions... let's try something different! It seems that in Firefight gametypes you spawn with the pistol (can we still call it the magnum?) and the Silenced SMG.

But despite lack of weapons like the BR, we still have a huge variety of weapons to choose from! Fuel Rod cannons, Rockets, turrets, maulers... whatever! So my question is:

What weapons do you plan on sticking with, save special circumstances, to go through Firefight?

Personally I am still in love with the idea of the SMG and pistol helping to replace the BR. They look like great weapons in themselves and fun to use. I can also reminisce about Halo: CE days with my friends. Of course, if you see a rocket launcher you'd be a fool not to take it (no offense to anyone who has a phobia related to rock it lawn chairs)... but I mean for most of the time what'll you try to go with? We know there are lots of plasma pistols. Chieftains have them some hammers- there are fuel rods in there too. Knock the plasma cannons off the phantoms and take those.

Sure it depends on the situation. But for my ideal fire fight? I'm going to stick with the SMG and Pistol.

"I recken you don't come around these parts?"

sneak sounds like the best option so far

also, they should add like a combat knife to like cut there throughts, then again its ODST not HaloCreed

Go Rams and Missouri!

I'll use a lot of the SMG, maybe the pistol. I see no need for the pistol, as the SMG is now very accurate and a pretty decent mid-range weapon. The pistol will be a sidearm, take out Grunts, maybe finish off Brutes with it.

I'll use Firebomb grenades, which I saw in the Gameplay trailer that was released on June 1st.

Well I'm going to try getting a ton of rocket kills. Big groups of Grunts+rockets=easy multi kills.

It's still the Magnum, just with a turbo-diesel-injection.

Anyway, I'm going to use the SMG/Pistol "Spray and then aim" method until my ammo reserves start to dwindle, then I'll switch to whatever I can find, really.

When it comes to Chieftains, I'm hoping a quick plasma-bolt to the face, and an M6C blast will knock them down.

I'll take an Automag and borrow a Plasma Pistol somewhere down the line. If my pistol runs short on ammo I'll nab a Carbine from somewhere. This way I'll be set up for my role as the support player whilst my friends can control power weapons and the like.

For most combat situations, I will be rocking the SMG and my Pistol. Take their shields out with some quick and accurate burst fire from the SMG, then whip out my pistol and make some nasty headshots.

Also, if I grab a sniper, I will replace the SMG, because if you get a body shot no-scope then you can flip over to the Pistol, instead of having to try and no-scope again, or going to your SMG, which takes longer to actually kill an enemy.

Whatever the weapons I'm using, I can't wait to get my hands on the game! I've already got it reserved, and I am pumped. We are under 60 days now, correct?

Let the countdown begin!

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Corner camping with the Shotgun, Gravity Hammer, and a Mauler behind me once my Shotty runs out... duh...

" Truth? You will Never know Truth!"

"My tears cannot cover the blood that has been spill."

"I lead my troops into battle. With strong morale and man power, we will overcome the invaders!"

I'll use the sniper rifle and the smg. After those run out I'll grab a pistol and shotgun. Then go Spartan. :P

Aim for the head when you see 'em go get 'em -blam!-.

Something like that.

On the blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons.

Tactically of cores, Charging in like a Spartan on Steroids is suicide, I will simply pick off weaker opponents with my weaker of guns, tend to use Shotguns/Sniper as my big hitter, If I have a shotgun I'll depend mostly on a ambush style.

Nothing says Die you damn dirty ape like a shotgun blast to the back. And while I'll have little issue throwing frag grenades out I will save any sticky style grenade for hunter. Specially the brute grenade that a 1 hit kill on hunters backs.

Spartans are from Venus and Elites are from Uranus

I'll probably be using the same sort of tactic in ODST that I used in Halo 3 just with the pistol taking the battle rifle's place. I typically keep a some what long-mid ranged weapon with me - the Pistol or Carbine. I'm not sure if the Carbine will be worth carrying with this new pistol. I'll just have to wait and see.

With it I like carrying a shotgun or mauler. If I cant find them then I just go with an SMG or assault rifle. As for weapons like sniper rifle and beam rifles I typically leave them to one of my friends to fancies them more than me. And for power weapons like rocket launchers and spartan laser I typically swap out my shotgun/mauler/smg/assault rifle for it unless one of my friends want the power weapon.
Typically I'm happy to keep my close rang - mid range weapon combo. Those are to me the most satisfying weapons to use.

As for enemy tactis- Carbine/Pistol away on those Brutes and Grunts unless they're in close proximity. In which case it's time to whip out the more close range oriented weapons. I'll try and keep my distance from Chieftains and Hunters. With then I'll probably need to have my team coordinate so flanking. Grenade spamming always seemed to work well on hunters in Halo 3, we'll see if that works in ODST too. And for those drones - try and tay in cover and pick them apart one by one with the Carbine/pistol.

There are supposed to be some maps that let you use the warthog. I excel with warthog. Warthogs are just fun on wheels. Unless there are Wraiths constantly dropped in on the warthog map I should have a good time.

I love the 'hog too, but Warthog>Wraith. The Wraith simply isn't manoeuvrable enough to beat a Warthog if the driver knows how to anticipate the firing arc and the AI.

  • 07.26.2009 4:00 PM PDT

I'll probably keep the pistol most of the time, as for the other weapon either a power weapon or maybe a brute plasma rifle to take out the brute's armour quickly, then switch to pistol and finish them off.

  • 07.26.2009 4:01 PM PDT

Ah yes, the warthog. Personally I'm really excited to see what the vehicle maps will look like. I wonder if we'll see any Gauss Hogs. We'd be in good shape then.
If I'm on a map with a warthog I'll probably go for that then, yeah.

Course the inherent danger in that is that if you die, your team can lose two lives, so you'd better be good if you're getting in a hog with your gunner.

  • 07.26.2009 4:03 PM PDT

Vrrin Vrrin, yeah here I come.

camp in one location with about four people sounds like a legit stratagy. or at least move together as one. that way, you can keep a constant fire on the enemy.

Royale with Cheese

I want to grab a Sniper Rifle, and hang back with the SMG or an Assault Rifle to fall back on.

The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

I'd jump on a Phantom and kill everything with one of the Chieftains' Hammers and then I'd use the Plasma Cannon that's mounted on it to kill everything on the ground while the Phantom drives away.

Then I'll jump down to take the Rocket ammo that's out on the front to get some extra ammo on my lawn chair and take out the two Wraiths. The other Phantom just dropped of its load, I've already swapped the Hammer for a Carbine back on the first Phantom. I headshot the Grunts and the Jackals, the shielded Jackals get owned by my Lawn Chair. I run forward and stick one of the Brutes and then on my way, I grab a Plasma Pistol and Combo all of the Brutes that are remaining The Phantom close to my buddies dropped off Drones and killed them all, I take cover behind the downed Wraith. The Drones see me when they fly over it and my Lawn Chair gets them all in two blows.

I'll run up to the armory and stack up on ammo. With a fresh automag, I headshot every single Grunt coming up, then combo the Brutes. One life remaining, my useless buddies died. Two Hunters have come up. I grab my Lawn Chair to deal with one of them. Out of ammo, I go get a Brute Shot from a downed Brute. I go around and around to melee the last Hunter in the back 'till it dies.Chieftain wave is coming. I ninja all Hammer Chieftains. Overkill! One left, he has a Fuel Rod. I stick his weapon as he comes up. He has no shields, I pistol him 'till his helmet comes off and then I finish him off. Hero medal!

Inspiration and excitement made me take it too far, what was the thread about?

I believe a while back in one of their podcasts that, "You'll loose some of your favourite guns but that new gun the Wrecker is going to be Bad A$$, wait are we supposed to talk about that?"

"IDK lets skip that subject and move on then."

*Luke laughs histarically*

So I think I will use this new weapon this "The Wrecker" seems like it might be good.

  • 07.26.2009 4:06 PM PDT

stuck u

the AR is stilll in odst so i will look for that but the smg looks sweet along with the new handgun so it depens on how well the smg and pistol work

  • 07.26.2009 4:07 PM PDT

as long as there is no Wraith and the phantoms are gone, I'll be sitting on the turret

  • 07.26.2009 4:09 PM PDT

Im going to stick with the smg and pistol untill i find a brute plasma rifle.

  • 07.26.2009 4:14 PM PDT

Vrrin Vrrin, yeah here I come.

the Wrecker?! that sounds like a MAC gun strike or a hammer of dawn type weapon! this is awesome!

for some reason i am not able to watch the podcasts.
