I'd hope there's a new engine. Halo 3: ODST was the only game thus far that Bungie said didn't use a new engine, and clearly because they didn't see it as a whole game in its own right (it's still Halo 3).

I hope they work on the physics more. Havok is fine, but it needs to be improved. When spartans die, they shouldn't bounce much. Their armour is heavy and made of rather solid metal and other almost-as-heavy materials, all accumulating to no less than half a ton. I also they work on making the damage inflicted on a player represented accurately on the character model, akin to how warthog damage is done.

Hopefully, this engine ups the ante.

Just because it's heavy doesn't mean it does't bounce.

The spartan armor is dense, and absorbs almost no shock at all from a fall. Therefore it bounces a lot.

Cars are hollow, and they compress to absorb the shock of a fall. Spartans aren't hollow.

What about Elites? They don't wear full body suits like Spartans do. In real life, if somone jumped off a building, they're body would go splat when it hits the ground. I'm pretty sure the same thing would apply to elites.

why are you gus replying this topic all the time ?

Because it's like the most important topic in the history of Halo. lol

And also, Halo: Reach's new game engine is also important as it decides the fate of the Halo Series. You do want it to be good don't you?

lol

Bacon

When I first got Halo 3 I tought it was like so awesome, the graphics..
But now I really don't feel the same way but its not bad.

  • 08.28.2009 5:52 AM PDT

Viva La Revolution!
Social Infection ftw

Maybe with HALO: Reach, the graphics will be better than real life, and the physics engine will be better than real life too.

Except the Spartans. Their supersoldiers.

I think Halo: Reach will have way better graphics than other Halo games because they have been worked for almost 2 years and they are going to work for another year. 3 years to make a game is very much so it has to be amazing and very good graphics. I hope Halo: Reach has still the same multiplayer gameplay but it's difficult for Bungie to make the multiplayer graphics much better and keep the same gameplay so there are plenty of thing that could be worse than the last Halo game.

This is an incredible step forward to being able to cure Downss sybndonre mn humans bineg.s

Was it seriously ever in doubt that Bungie would develop a new engine for Reach? Didn't they state it in the first ever Reach FAQ, about a day after the initial trailer?

But really, wee need to keep this thread alive.

It's the only one that actually has a purpose and has decent conversation in it. Not some whiny -blam!-es complaining about the fact that the game has new features in it. Or stupid little kids trying to turn the game into Call Of Duty.

KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE. lol.

But yeah, I found a video which pretty much sums up what "graphically" I want in Halo Reach (with the exception of object based motion blur/ decals on EVERYTHING). It's a bit farfetched in the physics department though.

It will look like Starry Night, and it will support 1080p.

I hope...

The game would be ridiculously clean if it looked like that trailer. The graphics might divert your attention from the gameplay.

jesus. no one noticed this?

Anyone else have more info on this new "AAA Engine"?

AAA means 1st class. really good.
OT: its probably just a highly upgraded halo 3 engine. bungie has always build off the last engine...

I say Bungie should start from scratch and get rid of all of the problems that the Halos' have had. Such things as Boosting, Super Bouncing, Pressure Bouncing, Lagging out, Cheating (If at all possible...) and random Combinations that can kill easily.

Those are problems you're gonna have reguardless no matter what engine you use (in terms of cheating)

GOW has it's crab walks and kingfu flips, Halos got it's super jumps, COD's got....EVERYTHING else.

Actually, super jumps barely exist in Halo 3 anymore. In most cases, you can't perform them unless you are the connection host and you usually need to be in Forge or Custom Games in a controlled environment. There really aren't any cheating problems in Halo 3 except for boosting which can never be fixed because it's not related to the game engine. As for lagging out, that's also not really Halo's fault. It's whoever has the worst connection's fault.

lol i think the graphics for Halo are close to the limits already. While other games may appear to have better graphics than Halo 3. Halo 3 actually uses most of the graphics resources in other things such as lighting and draw distance, The lighting in Halo 3 is really good. But that takes a lot of the games resources. Also in campaign, real-time reflections use a good amount of resources too and the water effects aren't resource friendly either. And yeah, I'd like to keep this thread alive as well. lol

The lighting is -blam!- beautiful. It's the shadows I don't like.

Radiocity wouldn't hurt either... I mean a game as colorful as Halo would DEFINITELY benefit from radiocity.

Maybe if they did the water effects the way GOW2 and Fallout 3 did it. It looks like a dynamic normal map decal or something. The physics could stay, but on a much larger scale (like GTAIV) As for fire... I'd always wanted to see what it looked like if someone had used cloth simulations for fire. If a glowing light under silk with some wind blowing looks life fire in real life, I'm sure you'd be able to make something even MORE convincing in a game.

Yeah, I thought the fire effects and physics could've been better too. I wish that when you set certain objects on fire, the fire will spread. Like if you make a line of wooden pallets in Forge, and then light one on fire, it would spread through all the pallets.

Well, Halo never went for realism. It just wants to look cool.
Like a comic book.
It succeeds.

Well it's a huge leap from comic book graphics. I'd say the game crackdown is closer to comic book graphics than Halo 3.

Well, CBs have different styles. Halo is kind of like a mix between the Akira books and Adi Granov's work.
