In ODST dual wielding was taken away because of the silenced smg. Why cant the rookie dual wield Auto mags or plasma pistols i mean they are not that heavy. why didnt bungie just take the other weapons off the dual wielding list like the needler?

You don't mess with the best,
and the best don't mess with the rest.

Cuz. Bungie said so thats why.

"Take my advice. Rookie. You ever fall for a woman?

...Make sure she's got balls."

How do you duel wield two scoped weapons?

Shooting a gun with 1 hand is hard. Its not about heaviness.

Maybe they are heavier than you think? The exact weight is probably on Halopedia (sheesh).

Dual wielding anything probably takes lots of arm strength to keep both of them level, the recoil is enough to make Master Chiefs crosshairs fly upward, and he has bones of steel and super muscles. If an ODST dual wielded SMGS, they would fly right out of his hands.

Two wise young men meet at the top of a mountain and futally attempt to push each other off while the third, much older, wise man, that was first to the top, watches. After hours of struggle a victor was decided. As the victor turns to him, too tired to fight more, and the wise old man begins his climb on another hill far above the hill he recently occupied. The victor is left bewildered and lacks the energy to climb further. The wise man and the older wise man were now in their rightful places.

Good point and maybe there trained not to do rambo like things and use their heads more than brute strength.

And yet I saw a pics with an ODST using a detached turret.

they also can hijack vehicles

  • 07.26.2009 9:24 PM PDT

why are you looking at this?

because an odst is not as efficient with weapons like the spartans/elites. also, an odst's neural interface is not made to handle 2 weapons at once.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Yes. A well trained soldier can carry a heavy weapon like a gatling gun. If you've seen the ODST gameplay, the turrets are not "ripped" off like the chief does, but simply removed. And, as said, that's probably only in firefight.

It might just be for firefight. Firefight is not specifically cannon.

-I was here

thmost of the guns are too big for the rookie to duel wield which is why they were taken out. the auto mag cant be duel wielded cuz that would just be a cheap noob combo. so, basicaly that just leaves the plasma pistol to duel wield and all that gun is good for is stalling vehicles and a back up incase u run out of ammo. besides, who duel wields 2 plasma pistols anyway? they suck. so they just took out duel wielding all together

In the Halo 2 Instruction Booklet, it is explained that the Mark VI armor that Master Chief uses can track two weapons at once. Now ODST do not have this armor obviously, and thus they can't dual-wield.

This also explains why we couldn't dual-wield in Halo 1, since Master Chief was wearing the Mark V armor.

That's just the story explanation.

You are right in one regard: Th Mjolnir armor allows the Chief and other Spartans to duel wield. The reason we couldn't in Halo 1 was a gameplay thing and had nothing to do with the Mark V suit. In Halo Wars, we can clearly see Spartans in Mark IV suits duel wielding.

As for the subject of this debate: Yes, I'm sure a ODST could duel wield, but his shots would be highly inaccurate. That's why it was taken out.
