This idea is a little diffrent then my usual ideas. It's more A.I based, but it would have a big effect on gameplay and story I think.

So what is Multi Character Development
Well I'm not sure that's what it should be called, but for now it's what I'll call it. Now there's a lot of games where you can effect your charachter to be good or bad, but few have this with multible characters.

First off I don't want you to choose "good/bad" in Reach, you will always be Good. However your primary allies (I.e Johnson in Halo) pretty much anyone with a BIG part who fights next to you, which in Reach will probably be Spartans and ODST's. Now I think each charachter should have very flexible A.I behaviors bases on Difuculity and your actions.

What can change
basic
Easy-Men are confident, joke around, nothing too tactical is siad...I mean why you can kill 1000 enemies before being shot (not really)

Normal-More series of course, Still a few jokes, a little tactic language

Heroic-A lot more realstic, men will speak like soldiers, only time for jokes would be after a long, big battle

Legendary-Men will be somewhat fearful, dont expect to hear much good stuff.
(This goes for Primary and normal A.I allies)

The big stuff
At the start of the game your men are average, some might like you more, some might be jerks, some might be sweet. However things you do, things that you don't do will effect them.

Friendly Fire-If you shoot your men, them or not. And even kill some of your men they will all begin to hate you, they will not give you weapons, wont speak to you. They might even try to kill you. Also don't expect to get them out of a vehicle. Needless to say they will be dicks to you (but you would deserve it)

Savior-if you put your life on the line for your men, they will like you more. They will treat you even better then they did before. And if you get full acceptence they will be happy to give you stronger weapons, or ammo, or even health. Pretty much the opposite of above

Loner-If you don't stay near your mean, and just go by yourself (Rambo). Your men will become distance, they wont hate you, or like you. They won't speak to you as much, and wont tell you about things (Weapon's, enemy locations, mission bonuses ETC)

Annoying-If you go around jumping like an idiot, always being annoying to your men they will shun you away. Not much hate, they might laugh a little but in a battle they will be carful around you. They might see you a bad fighter, or a walking suicide machine.

AND THERE are a lot more things. Also each charachter is on there own emotions, so it is possible to have one guy like you...and have the others hate you. In so that ONE guy will be treated a little worse.

In an FPS
This does seem very un-FPS. Or for a game not like Halo. However this is pretty original, and would make for 1000's of gameplay scenerois, which makes 1000 more reasons to play.

Just think of it. If your men love you fighting will be easier, they will give you ammo, health, cover you. They will drive for you more, etc. If they hate you they might take ammo or weapons you are trying to get, drive away from you. ETC. And that's a very very very small example of what could happen.

Story
One thing is that I don't want this to be a "good guy" "Bad Guy" thing with the story. The cutscenes will change but in more ways then 2. Meaning there will be tons of changes, some cutscenes (a lot of course) will stay the same. However a few will have many different changes (depending on your actions).

And the END! must not be some cliche "lol bad guy/good guy" it has to be something better.

Hmm?

Also wether or not you like this idea try to read my other ideas. Try to comment them too!

"I'm afraid of the man I'll become if I lay my life down for the people I don't even care for"

Awsome idea! but.......

You might have to throw in the euphoria engine into the game. (makes its own animations on the go) Also, an incredible amount of audio lines will need to be created. AN INCREDIBLE AI SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE THROWN IN.

But hey. It's bungie. They can do it.

If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

☼►Popular Fusion - Doing anything, everything, and then some.◄☼

Well, I've definitely not heard something like THIS before. I would like the ideas, if the assumed problems with Halo 3s AI are fixed. Like running round like a maniac. Realizing where the enemy is firing, moving as a group, and MOST OF ALL, realizing where you are and what you intend to do. Look, if I'm charging in with a Shotgun, my Marine allies should have the competence to realize I intend to use the damn thing to take out the enemy I'm charging at. Why should they be able to realize this?

I'm sick and goddam tired of getting grenaded by my allies!!!

They should not charge if I don't charge. If I'm scoping and picking off enemies, they shouldn't charge in thinking I'm some sort of god that'll keep them alive from the other side of the map... through buildings and trees.

Hmm maybe it shouldnt effect cutscenes, however it should effect gameplay and such. That way it'll be a lot more possible.
