I say no. An expansion is a new campaign old hero, ODST brings us a new hero and a new campaign. An example of an expansion is FO3's broken steel, you join the ranks of the BOS and live past the purifier. ODST takes place weeks before the events of Halo3, so how could it be an expansion?

Your definition doesn't fit all expansions. An expansion could be an expansion to the overall story arc of the game in a particular series. That's exactly what Halo 3: ODST is.

People are saying it like the way I described an expansion.

Yes it is.

then why did you just agree with him?

Yes, it's an expansion. If it was full game, it would be Halo: ODST, not Halo 3:(see the "3") ODST.

Iam enjoying Halo Reach and revisiting some past Bungie games, iam a big fan of Bungie and their online community.

I peronaly dont think it is an expantion, its more of a prequel to halo 3 than an extention of it.

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

Bungie talked about it as an expansion, I think because of firefight they had to sell it as a standalone, then added the complete halo 3 multiplayer to make it better value for money.

It's an expansion. It has no new multiplayer, just a new campaign and a new hero. There have been expansions like this before. Microsoft just said it's a full game and raised the full price because they know the Bungie Halo fanatics will buy it no matter what it cost. There have been plenty of people on this forum saying they would have bought it for 100 dollars because they added Firefight.

Don't take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyways.

Yes because it still has halo 3 elements like the multiplayer.

I'm saying yes because it's an expansion pay attention.

Halo 3: ODST was considered as an expansion back when it was still known as Halo 3: Recon, but many things have changed. As taken from here: Much more than an expansion, Halo 3: ODST allows players to explore dangerous new ground, search the dark, abandoned streets of New Mombasa for clues, and fight back against the Covenant invasion from multiple perspectives.

In addition to this there is the addition of Firefight, the whole line-up of the Halo 3 Multiplayer experience with the remaining three Mythic Maps, and an invitation to the Halo: Reach Beta around 2010. I would say that Halo 3: ODST is a full game now, but that's just how I read all of the data that is currently available to the public on the matter.

Personally i dont know if anyone agrees, but when its called an expansion it kinda puts me off getting it lol. i mean its still gonna be amazing but you think of an expansion like its only a little bit more to the game. so meh.

Guys,

Halo ODST is an expansion. Why? Because of its content. It does not add nor change enough to be called a new full game. It is on the high end of the expansion bar though.

Firstly, The game only features moderate additions. A new campaign which they have estated is shorter than Halo 3's campaign (which was also short by the way).

Secondly, the only really substantial addition is the firefight mode, let me repeat that, MODE. That does not mean entire multiplayer experience. It is one mode.

When you look at the difference between Halo:CE and Halo 2. And then look at the difference between Halo 3 and Halo ODST. You can't just ignore this argument.

And some small things they have added, as far as I know, all Ive seen in terms of unique ODST stuff is a new pistol and SMG, and the SMG is not even entirely new, how creative.

The ODST campaign has no replay value because it is short and will get boring fast. They are RE-SELLING you the Halo 3 multiplayer as if we did not have it yet in a second disc. With three new maps, big deal. It is an expansion.

1 New, Short Campaign but original
1 new firefight Multiplayer mode, very cool
3 new maps and 2 weapons

Does this constitute a full-fledged sequel and/or spin-off? Am I the only one who is skeptical? You are paying 60 bucks for a short campaign and a multiplayer mode, this game has no "meat". It was made to tide people over and keep them on xboxlive until Halo:reach comes out.

This is nothing personal with Bungie, frankly I think the price was pushed by microsoft. Does anyone else see this?

An expansion doesn't have to continue the game's storyline or place you in the boots of the same character. I would say it is an expansion, because on top of using the Halo 3 engine and being called 'Halo 3 ODST', there is no competitive multiplayer, a defining feature of Halo games.

Whilst there are many full games out there that are smaller (content-wise) than ODST, by Bungie's standards, it would be a stretch to call it 2/3 of a game.

But I'm still happy to pay £30/$60 for it.

Microsoft are calling this a full game, but only because they know they can charge $60 for it and would be abused anally if they maintained it was an expansion. If you discount all the content we have already purchased, you are actually buying very little.

To top it off, watch this interview. When asked why the game was called Halo 3 ODST, Crosby rambled on about something completely irrelevant and frankly, wrong, to cover up for the fact that it was named such because it was an expansion.

It was still an expansion just a few months back. ODST has been finished for around two. Tell me how a 'small team' can transform an expansion into a full game in just a couple of months.

Microsoft have simply bundled in Halo 3's multiplayer and called it a full game. The bollocks about it 'having developed and grown over the months' is just a cover-up.
