...To bump my question so it could get answered.

Very well. The map the press played was named Alpha Site, a completely new map unplayed by the public.

I was told it was Crater. Quote where they said this.

Ign have some screenshots of inside the Oni building so I'm guessing this is the map the press played/saw.

EDIT: linky

Oh ok so the public has not played Crater yet according to BK Burger Boy? If these Elites were on Crater, then I know there were no Elites.

Still, bungie probably has the playable maps rigged so that Elites don't show up. They could of had this planned as a suprise.

It would be nice if they were. Dunno why but Elites are far more appealing enemies to fight than brutes to me. Not to mention it would add a new enemy to the sandbox without upsetting the Halo universe with a new unheard of Covenant alliance.

Perhaps it has been heard of... Maybe a Drinol or something. Keelbug and so on...

Let's just wait 57 days... Its not that long!

I imagine those Spec-Ops storming our position. Everyone would have not survived and it was on Legendary. 0.o Imagine their shields!

JUSTREC2 is right.

The article IS TALKING ABOUT CRATER not Alpha Site. Read the third paragraph on the third page. It's talking about Crater!

Still doesn't explain how this person saw it. No-one gets a sneak peek of the actual game except parts of the Microsoft Game studios.

MLG and other large communities sometimes do.

Bungie said the Keelbug made no sense. And it doesn't really. Why would a Covenant creature cut up bodies and take them away? The only reason it was thought of originally was due to frame rate issues in keeping corpses on screen with the Xbox original, which most developers bypassed by making bodies fade after death. Bungie knew that would look stupid though.

In short, Keelbug = unneeded.

Gameinformer got to go into Bungie and play it when it was first announced. The press hets invited to play it sometimes.

The press doesn't get to play anything more than we have saw. Bungie has probably shared that screenshot.

OXM UK played ONI Alpha site, I know that for a fact.

For one, we all know this is the Halo 3 engine, and I don't know if its capable of letting Elites be our enimies in the game, but one thing is for sure, is that bungie has confirmed that the flood will NOT be in the game whatsoever because they haven't arrived on earth yet. I recall them saying the same about elites.

And answer this question. Who made that article? The press?

Okay idiot, the engine has no baring on the enemies you fight, if it did then we would be fighting Combine and Headcrabs in L4D. Also, this is talking about firefight, firefight is not canon, they could have any enemy they want in firefight, I mean we can play as johnson, but yet he's on delta halo, BECAUSE FIREFIGHT IS NOT CANON!

Actually in the Halo 3 campaign, when you betrayed a few friendlies the Elites turned on you. So they were your enemies for a short time anyway.

Not true?

Actually, just last week Brian locked a sizable contingent of gaming journalists into a room with a handful of copies of Halo 3: ODST and a pile of Grade D meat.

Taken from the last weekly update. Scroll down to Where the Hell is Mah Medias! for the full thing.

We're way past that, gtfo.

You've got me there, but the article that was shown on the first post in this thread was Crater. No Elites in crater. The article made a mistake.

Proof please? We have no proof they are in and no proof they aren't, and don't say "bungie said they aren't" because bungie has lied to us time and time again about things like this, one example would be when they said they would never make a Lockout or Midship remake, but yet they made both.

Let's just not turn this into a flame thread.

I think both sides made their point and now the only thing we can do is wait.

Either the author made a mistake or we will be fighting Elites.
Nobody can say that for sure right now.

Hopefully a Bungie employee can clear this up.

Wow ODST board is REALLY hostile today.

GTFOs and name calling abound!

This is taken directly from the 1/23/09 Bungie weekly update:

"We realize that the Elites are of a fan-favorite, so it's probably wise to set aside your compassion and steel yourself for what is about to come. There are no Elites to fight in Halo 3: ODST."

check it out for yourself here

Have things changed since January? I don't think so -- I lean towards believing that the author of the preview article screwed up when he said Elites were in Firefight.

Hey, it's possible.
